So CBS's rankings are peculiar to say the least. Though they say they have been updated as of today, no way have they been adjusted to this past week's games. That being said here is the current rundown ( As of 10/3 in the AM)

Ranking in order
53. Fresno State ( 1-3)
55 AFA ( 4-1)
71 Wyoming ( 3-3)
82 UNLV ( 4-1)
87 SJSU ( 3-1)
91 SDSU ( 2-3)
94 Boise St. ( 3-2)
111 UNM ( 2-3)
119 UNR ( 2-3)
124 Utah St. (1-4)
127 Hawaii ( 1-4)
129 Colorado St. ( 0-4)

Super weird to see Fresno State at 53 after losing to friggin' UCONN who are bad bad bad and got rolled by Utah State. SJSU just took Wyoming's lunch money in their house. I don't' think we're a particularly good conference, but it's hard to believe we have 5 teams in the bottom 25.

However, Sagarin doesn't have us too far from that but it least it makes sense from this weekend but he does include FCS teams in his rankings.

Ranking in Order (as of 10/2):
49. Boise St.
53. AFA
67. SJSU
82. UNLV
88. Fresno St.
95. SDSU
106. Wyoming
112.. Utah St.
118. New Mexico
125. UNR
144. Colorado St.
175. Hawai'i

At least the top and bottom make a little more sense given the results from this weekend.

New ranking on CBS Sports has us at 72.
That one looks a little more in line with what I'd expect. We passed Fresno (#75) and are slightly ahead of Boise St (#77). They have Air Force at #47, San Jose St at #60 and Notre Dame at #42, so we'll have some chances to go up if we can win any of those games.

Cal, who beat us relatively narrowly on their home turf is at #64 currently.

Having BSU at #49? This is the same team that lost a couple of weeks ago to UTEP? UTEP is at the same level as UCONN!

The Massey combined has UNLV at #68. When is the last time prior to this season that UNLV even broke into the 90's?

Purely a guess..

Sanford's 5-7 year?

Lost to Utah then beat a ranked ASU squad on the road and followed up with a home win over Iowa State..(I think they started the year with win over Utah State? (Can't remember)...

3-1 with a top 25 road win would have to have gotten you close to top 60 wouldn't it?

One of those Sanford years I think we were in the 40's even. I remember giving a friend some grief at a party because UNLV was ranked higher than Texas A&M preseason. Living in Texas that was a fun couple of weeks, lol.

Oh by the way, A&M's coach was Franchione.

Had to be Sanford's epic collapse year..

I'm not arguing for or against your point regarding BSU's ranking.

However, no way in hell is UTEP on the same level as UCONN. They went to a bowl game last season, and are 3-3 this year with all of their wins over FBS teams.

UTEP is currently ranked #115 and was ranked around #125 when they beat BSU. You are correct that they are 3-3. The 3 wins are over #130 New Mexico State, #125 Charlotte and BSU. UTEP also lost to North Texas by 18. That is the same North Texas UNLV crushed. By the way UConn is currently ranked #122 which is only 7 spots behind UTEP, so not sure how that isn't on the same level? By the way, unr also went to a bowl game last year and look at how they are currently doing! With the way players can transfer, going to a bowl game in past years is no indication of how the team will do the next season if they lose players due to the transfer rules.

UCONN just got their first FBS win since 2019. First FBS win over someone other than UMASS since 2017.
