This probably went under the radar for some. But I wondered earlier in summer, why in the heck would the Big 12 hold their football media day in Las Vegas and at Allegiant stadium? There are plenty of big cities like KC, Orlando, Dallas or Houston in their foot print that are more than capable of handling the Big 12 media day, right? After the recent PAC 6 announcement, we all know UNLV should have been call no. 2 or 3 on the list. But UNLV wasn’t and why? The Big 12 commissioner comments at the media day are interesting and it appears the Big 12 is looking west and Vegas is part of the plan. Do they expand out west to 20 and add Cal and Stanford? What about SMU and UNLV? I do feel there is a void out west for P4 expansion.

I'm not one to chase after fools gold so to me the Big12 is something nice to look out from afar. I can't see them interested in UNLV. Don't get me wrong, I think their schools and school fans would love all the road trips to Las Vegas. There really isn't a better entertainment package like Las Vegas as a treat for their fans. But, again they aren't going to expand and dilute their media revenue for the schools they have now. They've expanded and that is the end of expansion for them for a long while.

Our best bet is to join AF and see if we can get into the AAC. They may offer more money than what we are going to get in our current conference which is looking like road kill. I think the Visitor and Convention Authority would love to be able to extend their advertising of Las Vegas to a whole new set of communities. We could bring their tournaments to Las Vegas and it's a win win for them and we get to survive.

I have one question? For all the reasons mentioned by the Big 12 Commissioner and the fact that UNLV football has turned the corner, why wasn’t UNLV called? General consensus is that UNLV should have been the second or third call.

After the Pac12 poaches a few of their teams we may be able to get an invite. I'm hoping AF and UNLV can make the move there. The MWC is dead.

My point is don't wait.

AFA and UNLV go to MWC commissioner.

We are out.
You let the fox in the hen house. Conference got swept out from under your feet. Let us out now at reduced exit fee because we are gone regardless when contract is up. There is no holding this together.

Worse case scenario for us is if the Pac12 merges with the AAC. That would be sweep #2 from under our feet. Not sure where we go after that. Independent is a foolish idea so after that I don't have a clue.

But, to your point that is why we don't wait. We need to move fast. That is if they even want us and AF.

The Big 12 AD didn’t come to Vegas to conduct a site survey for their football or basketball conference championships with both tied up in long term contracts that don’t expire for football at AT&T in Arlington until 2030 and in hoops at T-Mobile in KC in 2031.

Also, IMO some are under selling UNLV’s value and it’s not like the Big 12 is the BIG or SEC and they are the only P4 conference that has admitted G5 schools. I actually feel right now UNLV football has the highest ceiling of any G5 program in the country.
