Ask and Ye Shall Receive..SJSU vs UNLV gamethread

I'm stunned that Arroyo tried to run out the clock at the end of the 1st. Dude, your 0-6, go for it, what do you have to lose? Fittingly his terrible coaching decisions led to a SJSU TD.

Rebels go up 17-3 due to SJSU turnovers.... from that point on 24-3 SJSU.

May have come down to the end but did anyone out there think we would actually win?

I think the turnover right before halftime followed by the last second TD before the half by SJSU was the play of the game. Going into halftime up 4 instead of 11 was the turning point.

Its a horrible feeling basically knowing we would lose after that.

It's a horrible feeling knowing you are going to lose before it even starts and just wondering how the Rebels will do it.

In this case no wondering, horrible coaching. It's bad enough you don't try and score at the end of the first half. But then you run the ball...for what reason?? If you aren't trying to score then you take a knee to run out the time you don't run the ball and take the chance of a fumble, which is exactly what happened. Then there is the play call before the blocked FG. A too many men on the field penalty coming off of an injury time out. Some of this basic stuff is inexcusable.

There is no doubt at all that the stupid playing calling at the end of the first half lost UNLV the game. UNLV had any of three options in the last minute of the first half, and they picked the one that only an idiot would have picked:
1) Go after a score and throw the ball downfield in which case a turnover would have forced SJSU to go at least 60-70 yards or more to score. UNLV would either lead 17-6 or add to that score.
2) Take a knee and run time UNLV would lead 17-6
3) Try to take short meaningless runs that had no chance of scoring but would give a chance of a turnover. UNLV leads 17-13 at the half.

After a first half of a decent job of coach until the last minute of the first half, UNLV staff went back to coaching the second half to not lose instead of coaching to win, and this lost all of the aggresive play from the first half
