Anyone On The Recruitment Radar?

I know the 2 main transfer portal sites are 247 and On3..

But my question is why are Myles Che and Al Green have decent stats at their previous schools but they have no stars on the transfer portal websites?

Both guys have decent stats prior to being in the portal, why no stars?

The star ratings are nice to get an initial impression of a player’s potential, but aside from that I don’t give them too much consideration. It’s better to look at stats and tape to really evaluate.

If you go just by 247s transfer rating, Dembele is our best pickup, which I don’t believe anyone thinks that (I like the pick up, I think he’ll do well here that being said)

I hear you and agree but my question was why they don’t have any stars but the have previous production at their last stops?

It seems suspect that they don’t have anything next to their names but have previous production, on tape in both cases?

Just my take. I feel transfer ranking are very much hit and miss and unreliable. Take David Jenkins for example. From ESPN:

3. David Jenkins, 6-2, 200 pounds, SG, Soph., South Dakota State
Committed to UNLV
After playing second fiddle to Mike Daum, the big-time scorer (19.7 PPG, 45.3 3PT%) left following coach T.J. Otzelberger's departure for UNLV ... and ended up back with Otzelberger in Vegas.

Myles Che is the real deal. Stars dont mean anything in today's world. It's like when an unranked player commits to a big school, they automatically bump up

Ryan Forrest is a player Pastner is recruiting right now.
Interesting, don’t we have enough guards? He can score anyway 19ppg but a shooting guard who can’t shoot (24% from 3)? But what do I know Kentucky is interested so must be pretty good I assume.

He’s a slasher and finishes at the rim pretty well but his FT% and 3pt% leaves a little to be desired!

I’d take him but yeah I’d like to see a PF and a C soon…

I thought the same but Warthog a poster here I trust did the research. He made a post in another thread about it, 15 is the number that has to be met by all schools, starting this summer…
I've taken a deep dive into this. 60 days ago all the background data I viewed said 15 scholarships would have to be given. Now there are some posts and a few articles that say recent guidance "allows" 15 scholarships but there isn't guidance that mandates 15. Also there is a feeling that any program that is solvent will allocate the 14 and 15 position a scholarship. Some say walk-ons are still allowed and some not. Later in the spring/ summer ( exact date not given - May? ) there is supposed to be a final judicial ruling that will specifically state how the 15 man roster will be managed.

Below is the most recent and complete AI search I could find.
  1. Timeline for Settlement Approval:
    • A hearing was held on April 7, 2025, with objections raised about scholarship and roster limit changes2.
    • The judge instructed lawyers to address concerns by early the week of April 14, 20252.
    • Final approval is pending judicial decisions on these objections, which could occur by late April or early May 2025 based on typical legal timelines.
  2. Proposed Rules:
    • Men’s basketball rosters will be capped at 15 players (up from 13) with 15 scholarships allowed, eliminating headcount restrictions (all sports become equivalency sports)47.
    • Women’s basketball rosters remain at 15 players with no scholarship limit changes48.
    • Schools can opt in (15-player limit + revenue-sharing participation) or opt out (retain 13 scholarships + no revenue-sharing)7.
  3. Key Deadlines:
    • March 1, 2025: Deadline for schools to opt into the new system for the 2025-26 season7.
    • April 2025: Settlement approval timeline suggests final rules will likely be confirmed by late spring 2025 at the latest24.
Conclusion: The final rules are expected to be confirmed by May 2025, pending judicial approval of the settlement.

The most interesting part is "opt out (retain 13 scholarships + no revenue-sharing". I believe every P4 and the majority of G5 will revenue share to some degree. This will mean going to the 15 player limit.

Actually, they should force 15 scholarships to force the chasm to grow more quickly. For the rich 15 ain’t a big deal. For the rest of us, chops into things even more, it would hurt.

Something not yet known - and it could be a game changer - is how title 9 will be enforced. Will a female softball player get the same deal as a Men's BB star PG? Most believe common sense will prevail and the Men's PG will get a proportionate share, but it's not finalized and is in a Federal Judges hands.

That would be hilarious if they enforce that but i would believe it would fall back on actual TV revenue . So MBB would be much more than Womens volleyball. but on the other hand they make them carry equal amount of mens and womens sports which it BS.

but if they do it for FB and MBB basketball they will have to do it for every sport. No matter how small or big the $$ might be.

If they do it for those, then the club sports can also file suit and ask for their money? Maybe next inter mural sports? Get a photo that includes any fan in the crowd and use it, and do they get now get to file for money? 🤣

I think another 5 is a really good idea.

So, right now there are 10 or so Centers in the portal at a D1 level. A big problem is that they're all 1 year of eligibility so they might be looking for a larger slice of the NIL pie. In no particular order Malcolm Wilson from QCC, Payton Sparks from Ball State, Stanley Borden from Duke, Josh Gray from Mizzou, Boubacar Coulibaly from Pepperdine, Justin Vander Baan from Lafayette, Eddie Lampkin from Cuse, and Emmanuel Okorafor from Seton Hall (he's post Covid free RS, but may have 2 years of eligibility left with the possibliity of the 5 year eligibility rule being discussed). As far as underclassmen, I can only find Papa Kante from Pitt who would have 3 years eligilibilty left. Apart from some twitter mentions for Lampkin early in the process, I don't really see any UNLV heat on any of these guys.

If you look at top 100 JuCo there's Josh Hayes from NW FLorida who should have 3 years of elibility left thanks to the non-NCAA waiver injunction, Jean Yvens-Lafleur from SWTCC. All these guys are receiving offers from much lower level programs but you might be able to get a developmental guy here.

With HS top 300 left available there is Mapar Maker (we never get a Maker, not sure why I even listed him) from Anaheim, Abdou Yadd from OH, JD Palm from AL, Yaw Ansong from NJ or Ama Tening Sow from PA. We're currently not listed on any of these guys.

Not a whole lot to choose from there, especially when you compare it to the number of guys still available as 4s. I started to list them but it took way too long. But I wouldn't be surprised if we instead of a 5 got another big 4 who could fill in as a 5.

If anyone knows on any heat on these guys I'd love to know!

He’s probably a pipe-dream based on who’s on him, but this guy would be a home run (apparently we have reached out at least):

curious what people think, and I don't have any behind the scenes looks that it seems some here do. Has Pastner's portal success been more about NIL money or his ability to recruit?

Baba is on the list of 4s I started, and there are a LOT of good transfer 4s with multiple years of eligibility left--Baba just has the one. My gut tells me with Dembele already committed, Jones being a 3/4 hybrid, and Hamilton being able to play the 4 we'd be looking at a slightly cheaper developmental piece with 4-5 flexibility. I think Baba is going for the biggest bag he can get and I think if you did manage to sign him you'd probably have someone looking to transfer or cancel their LOI.

That would be an excellent problem to have.

I’d say both!

Remember Jay Wright, Coach K and John Calipari all were vocal and it’s documented that they thought UNLV hired the right guy and should be commended.

One of the acumen they mentioned about Josh is his ability to recruit!

Definitely true!

The C should be a developmental guy with some ability to be coached up, so he’s more than a foul waiting to happen in games!

Stephen, Bannarbie, Jones, Abittan, Gibbs-Lawhorn, Green, Williamson, Evans, Fleming, Dembele, Cunningham, Hamilton, Che

Double check to make sure.
