Is it working? I’m not sure. I know it will be needed in the future if we ever get into the big 12 or another conference. But right now, we only fill this thing a third full and even when we’re out in force, it’s pathetic.

I don’t know… was thinking about this today. In most college towns they shut down, no other events or activities, no kids sports are being played during that time so everyone can go to it or at least watch the game. My kids both have sporting events today and I’m at work. So there are 4 of us who are regular attendees who can’t go today. I think Vegas has moved on from UNLV and we are just hanging on. They needed to be at the top of their game 10-15 years ago to have the momentum and interest when pro sports arrived.

There are a lot of empty seats disappointing that a team potentially in CFP running can’t draw. It might not matter if we extend Odom.

Watching on tv and seeing the lack of a full lower bowl is shocking! If I was still in Vegas, I would be there supporting, hope they come up here to Oregon St undefeated!

At the game it looks like a lot of the empty seats are season ticket holder areas. Corners and end zone are mostly full.

Attendance: 24,638

Need a little over 5000 more just to fill the lower bowl.

IMO, we would have been so much better off had the Raiders footed 1/2 the cost of a 35000 (expandable to 45000) outdoor stadium and we financed the rest over 50 years. It would be big enough but not so big we could never fill it. It would have been all ours and we would be playing Saturday nights instead of bowing to the Raiders.

That isn't bad is that announced or actual?

We just won 59-14. I don’t care if it’s in front of 11 people. There were a lot of high school invitees there today. I can’t imagine them saying, DAMN, I’d love to be a part of this team, but I’m surprised a college team in Vegas can’t fill a 65k pro stadium.

They're probably complaining about the burger and hotdogs prices. They're definitely not complaining about what they saw on the field today. That was a message. How do you even prepare for that if you're Syracuse? You seriously can't.

Not very many. You could see which fans in red were the FSU fans, since those sections sat the entire game without much of a chance to cheer. Almost all of their fans had already left with 5-10 minutes left in the game.
That's good then glad to hear mostly UNLV fans. I bet next week's game has good attendance I bet Syracuse brings some fans.

It took decades of bad football to destroy the fan base, unfortunately it will take time to build up and surpass the old fan based and then work towards 40K. The good thing is being ranked and winning is a cure for anything. Every game they win will bring more new fans to UNLV games.

Nah..this town is brain dead.

I’ve heard all sorts of excuses formula 1 traffic etc.
It will take time, but the crowds will grow. I think some of the areas they need to go after are to get the casinos to buy in bulk and hand out tickets to employees, get different groups sponsorship with the names on the board like they did in the past, give discounted tickets to kids from the school districts or free for good grades, and let there parent pay to also come. The idea is to build up a younger crowd interested in UNLV football! I also hope to start seeing more people using their luxury boxes.

Friday night games aren’t traditional in CFB and traditionalists (Odom) don’t like taking the spotlight away from HS football, but there’s not much competition for eyeballs on TV Friday night. Gotta think it doesn’t hurt in terms of program exposure.

Unless I just couldn’t tell, it didn’t seem like Fresno brought many fans. Maybe that’s because they were wearing red, and they had zero to cheer about.

If Syracuse is really bringing thousand(s) of fans, then this game should push 27k.

My original post wasn't so much about did we have a good turnout for a UNLV game. My post was, in retrospect, is Allegiant turning out to be a good idea? I don't believe our future Conference will pull much more that what we saw yesterday. When you look at attendance for teams in the AAC and Conference USA most of them pull around what we had yesterday. But most of them play in smaller stadiums. If you are playing in a 30,000 seat stadium 25,000 looks like you care. But if it's in a 60,000 seat stadium you can't mask the fact that you don't really have a fan base.

Yes, the atmosphere was good for a Rebel game. ( Rebel fans still don't know how to be a 12 man for a team - the announcer still has to beg for noise on a third down) But for those of you who go to large conference games around the country you know it's still pathetic.

I don't know how but we need to boost student attendance. At Auburn University the stadium holds 88,000. Around 21,000 of those are student tickets. ( packed tight every game) That is from an enrollment of 31,000 students. UNLV has an enrollment of 29,000. The last two games the students turned out larger than I have ever seen but I'd be very surprised if it was more than 6,000.

All things considered, I think Allegiant was a mistake. We have it and we'll make it work but cooler heads should have prevailed.

If UNLV keeps winning the fans will come.
We have been winning and since late last year we have been saying "next game we will get 30k". Hell we are ranked for the first time, played another playoff contender, we were the center of the sports world news and beyond this week and still 25k.
It sucks. At least it seems that the majority of the paid attendance seemingly showed for this game.
I Think the match up against Boise will draw. Hell it may be a college game day visit of both teams do not drop one before then which will definitely make the game "cool".
Friday's game should be better even because the word is Syracuse are bringing a bunch of fans

My estimate would have been around 3000 Fresno fans. But, in truth, nobody really travels well in the MW. I think Hawaii is the best opponent attended football game. When I go to opponent games you usually can't identify more that 1000 Rebel fans.

They need to add more student ticketd ike they did for UT every game. Open up the concourse next to the torch and fill it with as many students as they can. We can snuff out the students once we get more paid attendance. Students will get concessions, add to the atmosphere, and help the bottom line, even with free tickets

I could see where most of the Fresno State fans where located, and I would be shocked if there where more that a 1000 Fresno State fans at the game. It was easy to see where they were located, because those were the sections that never cheered all night long.

Game Day would be terrible here, where would they set up? In front of Allegiant with 50 fans there?

If game day ever showed up here, hopefully the students would show up in much better numbers that they do.

As far as Allegiant goes in general. I do think it works. Allows flexibility on start times. Don’t always have to schedule night games due to the heat. I think crowd will get better as we keep winning. Most casual fans are just beginning to see that this team is pretty good.

Completely disagree. Allegiant makes us big time. Just put tarps on the upper section. Nobody cares. We aren't getting more than 25k-35k or so no matter where we play. I'd rather play in an NFL stadium with awesome amenities to sell to recruits.
