5th in the country in scoring

We have been that high all season.

Luckily these last 3 non-conference games are against pretty weak opponents that should allow us to keep up our stats.

We averaged 91.2 ppg in nonconference which destroyed any expectations I had when it can to that stat.

If we keep playing at this level and improving I can see us making the NCAA tourney and maybe winning a game or 2
All these glittering stats will mean absolutely nothing unless the Rebels excel in MW play. Our extremely soft OOC schedule will ultimately work against us come tournament time. UNLV had better keep that in mind as they embark on the conference wars.

Obviously, should we go on to win the conference and/or the tournament, we’ll be in good shape. But recent games, vs Northern Colorado and even Pacific and Illinois have highlighted some weaknesses in the Rebels game. Sure, they were all wins, but instead of destroying those teams, like we did with Utah, we’ve been just hanging on.

Wins like that will turn into losses in road games at several of the stronger conference foes. And some could be home losses as well. The opener vs Boise St is one that immediately stands out as a game that will require maximum effort and minimum mistakes if the Rebels are to avoid an 0-1 start.

I’m not trying to sound all doom and gloom. I’m not. I have high hopes for this season. I believe we have the right mix of talent, and I believe in Marvin Menzies. I’m sure he’s spent this 8-day hiatus addressing these very issues. I just want to be sure that the players have the same sense of urgency that they will need to be victorious.

I’m a pessimist by nature and it was easy to see the fizzle lately. Lack of urgency, loose focus.

I think many are concerned and even as a pessimist, I don’t think it’s a trend or the team tapering. I think what we’ve seems to be complacency bred by the very soft schedule you are talking about. They are sick and tired of beating up defenseless teams. I think it’s human nature at that point. Plain and simple, they’re bored. A new focus on conference should change that dramatically. I mean, I’m assuming it will. It’s logical to me. If it doesn’t, then they’ll piss away a golden opportunity because the conference is ripe for the picking for a few teams.

If the top teams all have the “same” focus and “same” luck (injuries), UNLV wins the conference. They have the most cohesive regular unit and the best mix.

Turnovers need to be drastically cut down. I know going at a fast pace will cause some turnovers but we are at 10 before halftime. I can’t wait for the game, hopefully we have a good and loud crowd to feed the players emotions.

10th in the country at scoring now with 85.8 ppg. Only 2 teams averaging over 90 now. Tied for 6th in fg percentage.

Virginia Tech is the only team with a better fg percentage that isn’t ranked. They are 16-5 with a 5-4 record in the ACC. All the other 6 teams either tied or ahead of us in that stat are ranked. Weird. Doesn’t say much for our defense.

We should play more patsies next year so we can rank #1 across the USA

The team has scored over 70 in 8 out of 9 conference games. But opponents are scoring a lot too which is why there aren’t more wins.

Under previous coaches 70 points was a lot.

But we are the Runnin’ Rebels! We can’t start walking now. Maybe we should run a Princeton-type offense. Weave until the shot-clock approaches zero, then back-door. Sounds pretty exciting, no?

Go Rebels!

We haven't been 'the Running Rebels' in about 24 years imho. We just haven't realized it yet.

This. Except that I would add that we might never realize it again.
Nope. I believe in Marvin Menzies. He will restore us to our Runnin' roots. I believe it, so it must be true.

We saw a glimpse of that in the early OOC games. So, it’s possible. They just need to keep that laser-beam focus for 40 minutes a game, and for the entire season. Can’t have these in-conference breakdowns.

It seems to me, that they’re starting to get the message. But if it’s too late for 2017-18. There’s always 2018-19, and beyond. Marvin is a winner, and he’s going to turn the Rebels into winners as well. And they will run. He understands the need for speed in Las Vegas, and he’ll deliver.
