Good interview that’s gets into some detail on CJP’s history. He definitely has quite the coaching pedigree and his enthusiasm is a rather stark contrast to KK. I wasn’t planning on renewing my season tickets but now I may have to reconsider. Only negative is he gushed a bit too much about Arizona and Lute Olsen for this Tark era Rebel fan.

Very fun interview. Cannot deny the man’s enthusiasm. Looking forward to seeing the product on the court next fall.

He loves and tends to repeat him shelf a lot, in his interviews.
But, his love for coaching is contagious.

Wow Pastner is maybe a bigger nerd than Dave Rice! Better with the media, that is for sure. He hasn't said anything we haven't heard from practically every other coach of the psat 15 years. Hopefully he does create some more excitement though.

Bro, I’m a bigger nerd than Dave Rice at times.

Pastner is a salesman who coaches basketball. That’s not a bad thing. Every profession involves sales: medical needs to convince patients to trust them, lawyers need to convince a judge/jury, financial professionals need to convince @reagan21 to invest in bonds and whole life, and so on.

He’s convincing coaches and players to join him. He is also generating some buzz for the program. I’m good with him (until he loses his first game and then I’ll want him canned).

Dude hasn't had a drop of alcohol, coffee, or even any carbonated beverage? In his entire life!?!

Lol I have no problem with him being a nerd. I do like his enthusiasm, and I think UNLV does need someone like that to sell the program, raise funds, and yes convince players to come here.

I do like the fact that his has been scouting talent since puberty. And that he has been prepping to be a coach basically since then.

But the actual substance of what he is saying is a bit hollow to me right now. We need to "run" and "play hard" etc. That has been what we have heard, and the ones that have actually tried to push tempo and focus on defense, which has been most of our coaches, have had stale ineffective half court offenses, which is 95% of the game, and relied on trying to force turnovers, which have led to more easy baskets once our tricks have been figured out.

Personally I want a defense that primarily is built from stopping the other team from scoring, not getting a turnover. I want an offense, that prioritizes creating good looks and easy buckets, not relying on out talenting the other team by trying to beat guys one on one relying on difficult shots.

Lol. Not trying to be critical of what he said. He is actually saying the things that Rebel fans like to hear, so I get it.

Kevin didn't talk about it much, but actually had the same approach. Prioritized defense over offense, specifically a defense that prioritized creating turnovers. It worked for about a half of a season against poor competition.

I like the Pastner hire more and more over time, I really do. And I wasn't super down on him in the beginning.

I just think what he is saying is the same stuff we have been hearing for years now. That doesn't matter much, and if people are getting excited than that is great and what he is doing is working. I ain't mad at it, just think it is peculiar, that is all.

lol that is nice and all but he could snort blow out of the ass crack of a hooker as long as he wins basketball games.

I interviewed CJP when he was at Georgia Tech and I can honestly tell you the enthusiasm is real and legit. He called the house around 8:30pm and I wasn't prepared for an interview that late so my wife had to stall while I got ready LOL. He said "man you must have a huge house" 🤣 When he got this job I sent him a quick text congratulating him and he replied a few days later. Just a real genuine guy who can get this ship righted. I'm actually working on a piece about the roster and if he can get them to gel, the talent is there to be really good IMO (but yes they could use 1 more big).

Maybe he has a strict hardcore Jewish diet.

His energy is incredible. The rice diet had me cracking up.

My roommate said the same thing after watching the interview. “These 2 guys sure like to talk a lot”
