Wyoming has played some bad games and decent games. If the Unlv team of last week shows up, we should win easy.

Effort is not bad. But the weak double team leaves guys open for 3's and Wyoming hitting them. Our offense is simply terrible. Our bigs cannot score vs decent defense. And while DJ is our best player, he is not quick enough to get good shots all the time. We are down 8 with just over 3 minutes to play and it will take a miracle to win.

So I guess last week was not a “light bulb” going off for this team but an oncoming train!

This game sums up Kevin’s career here.

A typical head scratching loss when they are supposedly turning the proverbial corner, but nope they get mugged on the corner instead, by a bad team at home.

Fire Kevin at season’s end!

What a boring offense, wish we had someone that could go to the rim unafraid.

Bad shooting night means you attack the rim, draw a foul etc. but this team went back to being soft.

Boring, plain, non-eventful team. No one cares about this team, and why would they with performances like tonight.

Last week was good, but we’re back to reality now. I’m not surprised.

Slow down basketball doesn’t work in Las Vegas. We passed up numerous early 3 point shots only to get a poorer shot late in the shot clock . They just can’t figure it out. Play fast… shoot fast… or get out of dodge. Quit playing Coach Kruger vanilla basketball…

They are back to the same ole team!
Im Back Episode 4 GIF by Friends

Got completely outcoached. If we would of pressed and trapped we would have won easily. THEY had multiple guys that could not dribble or shoot freethrows.

I mean, this is Runnin' Rebels basketball under Kevin. He will have a Q4 home loss after a pair of nice wins. He will find a way to kill any program momentum by not getting his guys ready to play a bad team. You will never go dancing with Kevin at the helm. I'm tired of pretending that it's possible. Shit, we're not even going to make the NIT at this rate so what does that do to the 'he's learning on the job and getting incrementally better each year' narrative?

Horrible offense. Close outs weak. Bad basketball.

I know we were on the verge of a lifetime extension after beating excellent Utah State and SDSU squads.

I’m wondering if Wyoming is popping champagne while Kool and the Gang’s Celebration blasts in the background and the team all dances all over one another. I mean, for Wyoming, that IS a big win, so I’m wondering …

Yes it a big win 4 them. They suck. Anytime u can beat a net 100ish team it huge for them especially on their own home floor. That was some of the worse starting 5 i have seen in a while. 1 really good player and a bunch of players that would not even see any minutes at UNLV.

It is a big win for them, they haven’t won at the Mack in a regular meeting since 2003. Given the amount of coaches we’ve cycled through since is pretty impressive that there’s one team we could reliably beat at home.

I also must say I am not impressed by CKKs staff, they don’t say much on the sidelines, not much coaching going on. There’s talent on this roster but for whatever reason there isn’t much growth.

Like Luv said, last night was on the coaches. How did they not run press more often? Whenever they (UNLV) did it resulted in a turnover or rushed shot. That’s why they (UNLV) were able to come back and almost send it to OT. It’s just mind blowing. Where’s Lon? He can point this stuff out to junior, again where’s the staff doing the opposition work?

Lon's golfing and hasnt been involved much in the game since he retired 4 years ago. Its not his job to point stuff out to his son. Maybe Kevin could read his book...

Upper echelon teams is a bit of a stretch. , but I agree it no Bueno. Senior/ Junior stacked every year and stuggle every year.

Yeah, it seems what’s most important for this program is creating Instagram content. Winning is a distant second, maybe 3rd or 4th.

Beating upper echelon teams, then losing to the dregs, is not good for my health. As long as CKK is here I think the best we can hope for is sustained mediocrity.
I think that’s the fairest assessment. Mediocrity at best, an occasional really bad year, an occasional “good year”. I’d break it down with a probability of 80-10-10.

Listen, I don’t think this team is good. I think they are flawed in recruiting, roster construct, player improvement, player uni-dimensionality.

But you know what? Same can be said about every other team in this conference. This is not a strong conference, it’s very mediocre. There won’t be an NCAAT win, imo.

Along those lines, it wouldn’t surprise me if this team rattled off wins that you don’t expect and some on the loss side. But they can even finish in top 3, imo. Or finish in the bottom 5.

So just take it game by game I suppose.

The MWC tearing itself apart also coincides with just about every program being mediocre or worse at all major sports... Football the conference was not good outside Boise and UNLV. Basketball its very similar. A few average teams, a few mediocre teams, and then mostly bad teams that occasionally have good nights. A team might come up and surprise someone based on style of play like USU or SDSU in the tournament, but yeah...
And then outside those 2, the rest of the basketball teams are mediocre and bad. Im not even sure Id classify us in the mediocre category this year. We took advantage of stacking 3 games in a row vs really bad teams, got thumped twice, focused hard for 2 games, then lose to another bad team... and then the cycle probably goes in reverse... honestly we could just as easily lose the next 4 games in a row or win 3 of them... and then were left looking at a 6 or 7 seed, being on a bracket side that includes a path like Reno--SDSU-USU to make a tournament.

".....flawed in recruiting, roster construct......"

I think this is the biggest flaw in CKK's coaching. Even a fair coach can look really good with excellent players.

I disagree, there’s talent on the roster. Problem is developing and getting guys to know their roles. Too many guys are playing like jags and not stepping up.

They're all role players outside DJ. That was the problem with our portal recruits this year. We brought in a bunch of average role players and 1 "scorer" from a lower league and tried to replace the talent we lost in the offseason. The hope was a bunch of non-alphas could support DJ and he could facilitate the offense enough to make back end bench players starters... Kevin's been terrible at constructing a roster capable of supporting the best player on his teams, and it costs him. We got close last year, but he wasted EJ and Bryce with rosters that were inadequate

By that logic, Dave Rice would have a statue in front of T&M. Great players help, but great coaching brings out the full potential... there’s more to success than just the talent of the roster.

I don't post much, but here goes. Notwithstanding the lack of pressing and the fact that I also think we need a new coach, pressing and trapping, and bad shot selection I saw things a little differently in some areas. I loved the hustle. I thought the offense was much more crisp last night and the previous 2 games. We got caught by a team that hit everything they threw up, including the last second three that was basically thrown up with one hand from the corner. When a team is that hot, any team is in trouble. We didn't give up again. We beat them 4 out of 5 times. Why we couldn't adjust to stop their threes is up for debate. also, they looked extremely fast and got into the lane at will. Again, our fault. I know we are going nowhere but it was at least a little fun to watch. OK....Let's have it. LOL

You realize the scouting report on Wyoming was "best 3 point shooting team in conference, bad at everything else" and our entire defensive gameplan was to give up open 3 pointers all night?
So yeah, they had to be hot, but once it was obvious they were we didn't switch until it was to late to save us. Stumbling into a end of game situation like last night highlights how bad Wyoming is, not how lucky...

The skip pass to weak side always results in wide open 3's against us. That is not a matter of Wyoming being hot, it is every game that teams go off on 3's against us because of that strategy. I do agree the effort last night was not the problem. The offense was awful. Trying to score on your own does not work well when you do not have athletes. Our only plus athletes are Bedford and Hicks.
