College athletics is a business now. We keep talking about how cheap Kevin's contract is, but we don't figure in the extra money that a top 25 program brings in: an extra 8k plus tickets and the connected seat license (sure, you can call it a RAF donation, but it doesn't change what it is), concessions or parking per home game figure into the total contract cost. Men's basketball has gone from the golden goose to an albatross--that's not all Kevin's fault, but he is culpable for not putting a better product on the court for the last 4 years. And while we're paying him 775K + benefits, we're watching probably half that much not come in the door EVERY HOME GAME. And that's if we draw 12k through the gate in a competitive market. If you put something exciting on the court you can draw even more. You simply can't accurately figure out how much his salary is actually costing us, but it makes Archie Miller's salary seem super reasonable.

His salary is cheap, and you're paying him to learn on the job as a nepo baby. But the cost is MUCH higher when you actually figure out the losses we're seeing.

0 and Im excluding DJ because I dont think it matters hes gone anyways. They're all tainted by a culture that's accepted mediocrity and losing and lacking focus. It's easy to replace your roster and we should hire a coach that can bring a good portion of his roster with him or one that can immediately establish a culture like Odom did in football.

People forget that the entirety of contract is the same as what Iowa State paid us for TJOs buyout. Theoretically his contract is covered and the gate receipts and concession revenue pays for everything else and keeps the lights on.

Again theoretically, and we’re aware that the department has had budget issues and constraints, so the buyout probably addressed those needs first and not necessarily pay for CKKs contract.
