I went to the game and watched a first half where UNLV dominated UNR turn into a complete collapse in the second half.

Key points of the game:

UNLV was 1st and 10 at the 21 of UNR at the start of the game and Decker threw and interception. Where have I seen that play before? This should have been a 7-0 lead.

2nd quarter UNLV is 3 and 7 and Decker throws for a 4 yard gain. UNLV ends up punting since they didn't go for a first down pass play

Middle of the second quarter UNLV is deep in UNR territory and the go long pass, run, pass for a one yard gain and only get 1 yard and settle for a field goal. UNLV was easily moving the ball and changed away from the shorter passes and settled for a field goal.

UNR goes for it on 4th and 2 and gets a first down by pushing over the UNLV line. End up with a TD.

Last 1:31 of the first half and UNLV needs to move the ball quickly. What do they do? Run play, run play, and run play for the first down. UNLV has already used up most of the time. UNLV ends up rushing a few plays and
punting away with no time left on 4th down. UNLV had enough time on 4th down to try once for the end zone and time would run out. Instead they ran the clock down and punted. Another example of playing to not win instead of playing to win.

In a first half totally dominated by UNLV, they left the door open with only a 3 point lead. Good team play, really bad coaching decisions with the exception of the early interception.

UNR has 10 run plays in a row and a pass at the end to get a TD and go ahead 21-17. UNLV just can't stop the run even when they know that is the only UNR weapon.

UNLV has a chance to come back on the next drive and has it with a 1st down on the 5 yd line of UNR. UNLV has a busted run play for 1 yard, and comes back with a pass into the backfield to Barnhill for a 1 yard loss. Why would you not pass forward instead of backwards on a short field. Barnhill has the height and would have caught the ball and moved forward at least a few yards instead of getting the ball at around the 10 and losing a yard. They end up with a field goal on a bunch of stupid play calls.

Next set for UNR only took 5 plays including a busted run coverage for 59 yards. The players did not stay in their positions and left them wide open for a long run. Lack of coaching and speed killed UNLV. Sad thing is that anyone with decent track speed would have easily ran down a back who had average speed.

UNR 28 UNLV 20

5:08 in the third quarter was the start of a complete collapse of UNLV. Decker appears to be concerned that UNLV is staying too close, so he throws an interception to a wide open UNR player. The UNLV receivers were at least 10 yards off where the UNR players was, who was out of position, and had 0 chance to get anywhere near the ball. Decker had thrown a fairly short pass without even looking to see where his receivers had gone. At this point I was considering leaving the game. It was obvious that Decker had done a patented UNLV QB implosion.

UNR 35 UNLV 20

4:14 left in the game and again UNLV easily moved the ball down the field with a 1st and 10 at the UNR 12. Again the play calls lacked any quality with a couple of short pick ups. UNLV ended up 3rd and 4 with a play that could be either a run or pass play depending on the calls. Again Decker was concerned with what would happen if UNLV scored and made the same stupid play as he did at the beginning of the game with the same result. Another interception. At least the UNR player was in the right position both plays. Decker never looks to see what the coverage is and instead throws a timing play on short distance. It was obvious that the UNLV receivers would be nowhere near the ball. Another interception without a UNLV receiver within 10 yards of the ball.

Next set of plays in the 4th quarter, and the UNLV defense did a great job and shot down UNR. UNR punted and the UNLV kick return man dropped the ball. UNR starts off at the UNLV 17. Even with a penalty on UNR, they score another TD, and effectively end the game. At this point I said season is over and left the game.

UNR 42 UNLV 20

UNLV does nothing with the ball and kicks away. At least they didn't get a turnover or and interception. UNLV had two interceptions and a kick return fumble in the second half. You can't win with that many bad plays.

UNR comes back with the ball after I had left the game with a very creative set of plays that ended with a TD.

run, run, run, run, run, run, TD, Knock, knock, hey D coach they are going to run!

UNR 49 UNLV 20

UNLV now decides to go with the UNR style and goes run, run, pass incomplete, run, run and ends up with a TD. Time is running out so it is obvious UNLV is just trying to score to make the final score closer. Typical coach Hauck has obviously given up on the season. He already had his cash and know he can't make things look in worse than they already look.

UNR 49 UNLV 27.

UNLV and UNR trade off on one last chance with the ball just running out time.

This game was typical of UNLV all 5 seasons under coach Hauck where the D couldn't stop the run, the QB would implode, and everyone would give up in the second half. UNLV had on numerous occasions put together a good quarter or two, but they never could play an entire game without some sort of implosion.

I should remember the UNLV v SDSU game as the one bright shinning moment where UNLV actually played an entire game without a letdown.

1 game in 5 seasons.

THE STUFF OF CHAMPIONS!

Now the waiting game. This time around they need to find the money to fix the problems with the training facilities, etc, and have the money to bring in good asst. coaches. Even if it means taking a chance with the BG coach if they can get the money from the Fertitta's to higher a good coaching staff to back him up and building an indoor practice facility.
