Waisale Muavesi removed name from transfer portal 1-7-2022

I know we’re a sinking ship but are we officially a sinking ship?

He was part of the plan, and is likely going to be picked up by a higher profile program quickly! I do hope to see where the rest of the 2022 recruiting class is going really soon!

IMO its the money causing these transfers. Plus these kids are spotlight hungry. More followers more limelight. Look at ticktok and the rest of those apps. Kids these days feel the need for admiration. UNLV has a lot to offer and if your good enough to play in the NFL you will make it regardless of where you go.

I wasn't referring to him. I was referring to some of the other guys who have transferred, who also saw there roles diminish this season. Guys like Hester and Salu..

Hester has graduated. No reason for him to stay another year unless he is looking for a masters at UNLV.

He and Salu both entered the portal. Both saw there roles diminish. Losing guys like that doesn't concern me. Not saying they weren't good, but they obviously were no longer in the mix or a good fit for what our DC wants to do.

Every school will lose guys to the portal.

Some will sting, like Jacoby...

Others like Malcolm Johnson not so much..

Again not saying he or any other player isn't good enough. For whatever reason it hasn't worked out here. Injuries, scheme etc...But you can't miss what you never had..And guys leaving that rarely saw the field don't concern me.

If Brennan Scott entered the portal, alarm bells would be ringing in my head.

We should grab some of these Hawaii D linemen who enter the portal. Come out to the 9th Island lol

Jonah La'ulu
0.7893 HS

Justus Tavai
0.8200 HS

Both guys had good numbers for Hawaii

We could be Hawaii or Reno..

One looks like a mutiny (UH) and another looks like the school was poached from their ex coach now at CSU.

It looks like per 247 transfer portal that we have good news and that he is staying at UNLV per news from today! I am guessing transfers to UNLV means he removed himself from the portal back to stay at UNLV! Coaches must have done their job, or he didn't find a better program to transfer to and decided it was best to stay.

This is good news. He has some talent. Plus we aren't in a position we can afford to lose a potential starter and at worst a guy that could supply quality depth..

Can't have too many DL that can play. Sometimes when you face the hurry up no huddle offenses your defense winds up playing a lot of snaps. The big dudes get tired.

Can you imagine the NFL, or any pro sport, that was in a permanent state of the entire roster being eligible for free agency every year with no salary cap? That is what the NCAA is building towards.
It’s disgusting and it’s going to ruin the sport for 290+ college basketball programs and 80+ college football teams. But it’s a dream for those 40 colleges who are only helped by it.

It's a tough spot for me.

If institutions are profiting off of your likeness you should receive compensation.

Let's go back a few years. Let's use Charles Woodson from Michigan as an example.

Michigan sold a ton of #2 Jerseys because of Woodson. Not just in Michigan. You saw that jersey everywhere.

On the flipside..

Regardless if Woodson went to Michigan or not 90k+ folks are showing up to that stadium.

I feel like there is a sensible middle ground, what that is, I don't know..

One way to help fix the problem is to end forcing those who have cable, etc. to subsidize the sports channels. If only those who specifically want to purchase sports were paying for the huge contracts, I think you would see at least a 75% drop in the money pool. When I did have cable, I was also stuck with sports channels as part of the package that I really was not interested in, which pushed the price of cable to a level that I decided it was worth paying for anymore. The last service I had was Dish and DirecTV, which both increased their rates every year, and always said it was due to the increase in cost for sports channels which they included in every available package.

In regards to people buying tickets to athletic events, they either purchase because it is their school, or because they want to watch the game, but with few exceptions, most people do not purchase tickets because of a specific player. In regards to selling jerseys, it is difficult to decide how much they should get from selling the jersey unless the players name is on the jersey.

In my case I have purchase shirts. hats, jerseys, etc., but I never purchased a single item based on a specific player, in which case I do not see a reason for the players to get part of my purchase price considering the fact that UNLV has never made a profit off the athletic department as far as I know.

I don’t think there are strong solutions. Any solution is going to be peppered with problems.

I think the NCAA needs to look at this and figure out a tweak to the rule. Shouldn’t be able to transfer within conference and still be immediately eligible (SEC transfers have been a complete joke). Perhaps the same following a coach (Looking at SC, Colorado St). Maybe also a minimum of 2 years or something unless your coach bounces. I don’t know, but it’s the Wild West right now and it’s making college football a farce
