Position wise yes. He doesn't want that. He wants a HC job. He could've jumped at any number of OC opportunities last year which would have paid lots more and he didn't take any of them. Why? Because he is waiting for a HC job that's just right for him.
Definitely NOT a lateral move, but not necessarily that many rungs up the ladder either IMO. If I were him, I’d shoot a little higher. On the other hand, Mike Gundy is a good HC and probably not a bad person to be around.
Depends on the amount of control Marion gets. Usually at that level, you don’t always have full control of your side of the ball. At unlv, Marion has full reign on this offense and even then, Odom has chimed in to burn the clock in some games.
In the past no way, but with the way Odom is coaching, and the way Oklahoma State is playing, yes!
If I'm Marion, I'm taking the Tulsa HC job. If that's not available, I'm in Albuquerque tickling some feet for the Bronco job opening. I'm not after another OC job. Other than those, I'm staying put at UNLV that let's me show off my independence as a play caller.
he can make more money as a coordinator at a P4 than HC at UNM. He's not making Bronco money. He coached for 20+ years. Tulsa is a sh*tstorm. He'd be fired after 3 years and then would be back to a coordinator job. Go be a P4 coordinator, make a bunch of money, win at a very high level then take a better G5 HC job. G5 HC are former P4 HCs and coordinators. Taking Tulsa would be a mistake IMO
I'm just grateful Marion will be coaching in approximately 1:19 minutes at UNLV. Let's hope no jobs line up that appeal to Marion and we have an even better season in 2025.
His designs are fantastic. I don't know why we couldn't get it going in the red zone. We have the pieces to make it happen, we just could never get it going against anyone decent.
