The UNLV v Syracuse game on FS1 had a viewership of 698K. In comparison the game against Fresno State on FS1 had 174K viewers; The game on ESPN v Kansas had 1.32 million viewers; The game verse Houston on FS1 had 172K viewers. ESPN ratings are always much higher than FS1, so the game against Kansas can not really be compared, but compared to the other FS1 games, this was a nice ratings boost for UNLV. There have been a total of 22 games listed on FS1 through this season. The UNLV v Syracuse game was the 4th highest rated game on FS1. The highest rated FS1 game was Rutgers v Nebraska 1.03 million viewers. The Washington State v Boise State game has 535 K viewers. The average number of viewers for games on FS1 was 426K per game.

From what I can read regarding Syracuse overall viewership and ACC network ratings, they averaged around 703K viewers last year without a single game outside of the ACC network prior to UNLV, and only two games listed on national networks for the remainder of the year. Last year most of there games had under 500K viewers with the exception of a couple of big games that had over a million viewers.

In comparison to other games of the day: Pittsburgh v North Carolina on ESPN2 had 645K viewers; West Virginia v Oklahoma State on ESPN2 had 634K viewers; Purdue Wisconsin on BTN had 588K viewers; USC v Minnesota on BTN had 701K viewers; Rutgers v Nebraska on FS1 had 1.03 million viewers.

It should also be noted that UNLV v Syracuse game was going up against:
Michigan State v Oregon on FOX had 2.84 million viewers
Houston v TCU on ESPN 1.51 million viewers (similar numbers to the UNLV v Kansas game also on a Friday on ESPN)

I really like the Friday spot for college football.

And I like FS1.

Those are good numbers better than I would have guessed. Friday night football is probably a good thing for us. Less competition and prime time.

I am a little surprised that a Friday night game against a ranked opponent that has been in the news was less than the average Syracuse drew in the ACC network. A channel that is much less available. Maybe a few games, perhaps the FSU game last year, really jacked up their average last year?

Traditioanlists hate college football on Friday but the guys that pay the bills (TV) know there is a spot for it Oregon had 3 million viewers $$$ last Friday night.
Friday games traditionally frowned upon bc it competes with local HS football and might take away attendance. I don't think that's an issue for UNLV / LV market.

The game viewership was the fourth best on FS1 out of the 22 games televised to date. The FS1 network is available in 72.4 million households across the country. The ACC network is available in 90 million households across the country. The UNLV game had 698K viewers compared to an average of 703K viewers for the larger ACC network. The games Syracuse played last year included 14th ranked North Carolina and 4 ranked Florida State. Remove those two games and the UNLV game most likely had a higher viewership than almost every game Syracuse played in last year. I think UNLV did very well in viewership. Unfortunately the game verse Utah State is on CBSSN which is not rated by sportsmediawatch.com. The following week is against Oregon State on the CW which is tracked, so will give UNLV a chance to see how they do in ratings compared to past Oregon State and Washington State games.

The bottom line is UNLV needs to show they have a better viewership than the teams going to the PAC. The highest rated team in the MWC over the past few years has on average been Boise State. Boise State has had an average of 295K viewers over the 4 games listed by Sportsmediawatch.com while UNLV has averaged 591K viewers over the 4 games listed with the ESPN game, without the ESPN game UNLV has averaged 348K viewers with numbers increasing each week. Right now UNLV is doing better in viewership than Boise State, who are ranked, which will have a lot to do with any future media contract negotiations. Winning the next 3 games could be huge when it comes to future media interest in UNLV football.

I am very surprised that more people have the ACC network over FS1.

The east coast has a majority of US eyeballs. Like, by a lot. Out west, we might not watch ACCN or know it exists. But about 3-4x more of the US population lives in their footprint. If you've seen a photo of what the US looks like at night, that shows the story.

I get that, but I thought FS1 was a very common portion of most TV packages around the country. I thought it was nearly as available as ESPN2

ESPN2 is available to 70 million pay television households which is very similar to FS1
