UNLV Stays Put MWC

Paul Feinbaum - " Don't trust UNLV"
Steven A Smith - "Don't trust UNLV".
Dan Patrick - "If you are thinking about going to UNLV you might reconsider".
Extorsion is illegal.
His agent isn't licensed in NV.
People will forget by Monday since some other "huge story" will happen. Heck, the VT game is already taking over the news cycle.

So very damaging. Gotta win the next two games and this will go away much more quickly.
Feel really bad for CBO. Doesn’t sound like he had anything to do with the alleged promise or even knew about it. He’s done such an amazing job not only winning but the way he’s winning, the program he’s building, and building character in young men. It’s been so pleasing to watch while the rest of college sports decays. And then this happens. It’s like a sucker punch. Add on top of that the conf realignments and it’s just been a really bad week for him. Perhaps he’s beginning to realize why it’s so hard to build anything permanent at UNLV.

Maybe a slight silver lining for UNLV, but maybe some of the bigger programs around the country that are looking to hire a new coach will opt out from Odom based on this issue. Personally I don't see it being a big issue, especially since we're not typically going after big NIL dollar players, but other big schools may see it as a big risk

I can only go by what I’ve seen so far. I haven’t any reason to think Odom isn’t above board with everything.

Don’t know about the assistants .. there are lots of possibilities. But I cannot see Odom being ok with something like this, he seems very focused on building and doing things the right way.

But it’ll tarnish him, because perception is (stupidly) everything, the court of public opinion becomes “fact”.

He can’t do much about it. Waste time defending it? Takes away from what you’re trying to accomplish.

He needs to find a way to use it as fuel. Whether it’s fair or unfair.

Time and winning both have a tendency to remove tarnish! Even after what Ohio State did in the early 2000's, it ultimately faded into the background, and most prospective recruits would have no clue it ever even happened. While I do not believe anything happened beyond a greedy mid level player trying to extort a big payday, I do understand that perception is all that counts, but believe that in a few weeks it will be forgotten. If UNLV continues to win, then Sluka will also quickly be forgotten. I look at Sluka as our Colin Kaepernick!

If there is a sliver of truth to Sluka's claims, mainly if it was Marion that promised him something, then that may hurt their relationship. We all know Marion is looking for the next thing. Some may think it will be the HC here. But I wonder if this expedite's his departure at all?
At the very least there needs to be full communication with the staff and the collective at all times. All offers need to be vetted first.

Again, it is very possible that it was and Sluka is lying through his teeth, made up this story to justify asking for more money 3 games in.

It's a story all the sewer merchants like Steven A. and Clay Travis can yank it over for a few weeks. Then nobody will remember.
Let's see if it's brought up again on national media. I think us crushing Fresno, along with whatever the new 'controversy' is, will switch people away from us.

That being said, I don't mind being the "Sinners" again. Tark's teams didn't hide from it. Barry should embrace it!

I think I read somewhere that the NIL system is changing next year so that the university actually has control of it or something like that, not really sure.

This, really hurts recruiting. I, just don't see the same recruits going to UNLV.
Can't, blame the student/athletes really.
Recruits: Who are Steven A. Smith, Paul Finebaum, and Dan Patrick?

SAS and Finebaum will stop talking about UNLV as of....well, Saturday night. They had to talk about it because it was topical news. Now it will be about Georgia/Alabama and Can Texas survive an SEC gauntlet and run the table.

If Jordan would have retired in 2024 after a threepeat SAS would have talked about it for 10 days, and then gone onto the next big thing. ESPN talking heads have ADD and will only talk about something until the next clickbait topic fall in their lap.

I don't see this as a hinderance to our recruiting. Maybe a tiny bit, but I doubt it. I do know that this will hurt Cromartie's ability to sign college talent for NIL deals. And good, because that dude is horribly inept.
