I saw 9th/10either way they finished well above their NiL budget.
Kentucky, Alabama, Texas, Tennessee, Auburn, Arkansas, A&M, Ole Miss, OU, Miss St are all higher and this just for teams that made the tournament.
This article mentions how they are growing to be top 3 after the success this year.

According to On3 national basketball reporter Joe Tipton, Florida basketball will be among the top of the SEC in terms of NIL budgets this offseason.
All these numbers are estimates and might be off since nothing is actually reported but I think it is fair to say UF was mid pack for basketball NIL this year in the SEC.
I see they used 22-23 estimates now which is strange but UF has not had ton of success and the other schools aren’t going down so who knows but they have not been spending at the same levels as other top programs.
Again nothing is official and there are lots of reasons to inflate everything on all sides. Do Utah St and CSU really have 4-5M budgets annually? That seems high based on the players and other things you hear.
My point is still you have to grow your budget to be sustainable like UF has or you need long term commitments from donors that will keep spending even without success (like Texas and OU).

We are rapidly moving to a point that we will be like Bozeman, Montana with Montana State. Their fans fully understand they don't have the resources to compete with the nationally relevant programs. They are happy to compete for the occasional Big Sky Tournament win and the resulting 14th seed. With the new MW light we won't be quite there, but we'll be so close it won't really make a difference.

Everyone outside of the P4 with very few exceptions will be Montana ST. TV revenue going towards players is a complete game changer. 20 million plus in 2025 and 30 million plus a year soon after going directly towards the players. Then the NIL money on top of that?? Most of these players are going to be millionaires by the time they finish college. 4 years of $$. Some will be multi millionaires and never have a chance to play at the pro level. Just a solid college player.
NIL is so fkcn dumb. Just allow NBA or NFL teams to sign kids like 16 or older and let them pay for their development in college, overseas, etc.
We start paying players was dumb. Team shouldn’t be able to profit off of their names without having to pay them a significant chunk, but you can put that in an escrow and pay it when they graduate. The argument was a scholarship wasn’t enough yet 95% of the country would be ecstatic if their kids qualified for an athletic scholarship and never got anything more than that.
There needs to be proof of contracted work for compensation. This is being paid for "NIL", while there is no actual use of the NIL.

Once they made pay for play legal, even with some sort of framework … they’d already opened Pandora’s box, no putting the cat back in the bag. The NCAA had enough problems handling clearinghouse, not enough staff, too many cases … they never had a lot of investigators for improprieties. Once they made it ok, it became ok. They cannot monitor, they don’t want to monitor. Don’t ask, don’t tell, don’t rat …. In the end the richest will thrive.
Hard to predict what will happen because there is no comparison. 1) Pro sports would be the logical comparison but they mostly have salary caps and multi-year contracts. 2) We have no idea the length of time a billionaire will support a team that fails to get to the sweet 16 or higher - one year, 2 years, 10 years? 3) will there be a couple of Billionaires who support a G5 or lower team with unlimited funds just for giggles? 4)impossible to predict what media will do. Will there be a joining of three or four media giants and they buy the rights to the power 4 and just exclude the rest? Would that really make a difference?

There comes a point that X and O isn't nearly enough. John Wooden couldn't win one game in the Big with a JV high school team.
You have to get players to win.
I really wanted the euro center. Seemed to have a decent enough skill set and then given his size, would be an impact player at UNLV. But missed out.
Pastner is a pretty decent recruiter. But that’s traditional recruiting. Now 90% of recruiting is NIL, 10 percent the sales pitch and relationship. Might be even more slanted to that. Whoever the best recruiter is in the country, if you put him at Norfolk State, all of a sudden he’s a crappy recruiter.
We will start landing guys soon, hopefully enough. I was really hoping Pape would stay, but even if he did and he made an impact/develops, he’d be gone.
Getting HS kids and developing them is a waste of resources and time, imo. You’re doing the dirty work for the big schools.

Does that mean Pape is leaving? I thought he was one of those who was staying. Bummer I thought he had a chance to develop as you said he would leave most likely but at least you have some production for a year if he did develop.
The problem is, in the past guys we signed at UNLV took years to develop. And by the time they did, it was their senior year!

He entered portal late after which tells me staff is confident that we are adding bigs better than his "potential" and thus is playing time is not what he hopes or expected. I get that he's a lengthy big man with "potential" but I don't see P4 schools calling his NIL guy offering money when there are more developed players. He's likely seeking playing time.
Again, P4 schools aren't in the game to develop players. I expect to see a decline in P4s recruiting freshman as well as monet can be used for veteran players that have been developed already
Can Josh exploit player development by recruiting a bunch of young freshman- sure.. Is that the best approach for winning fast- no. I think you saw his first go at this by retaining Kruger's young core and recruits. But i think you need the veteran players that are getting recruited over by these shiny "young" mid-major transfers to compete for the MWC title. Sure he could go land the #1 recruiting class in the NCAA full of 5 star freshman(not likely, P4 are still investing in the 1 and done kids) and win, but thats not likely. What Im currently seeing based on some of the targets is we dont have the NIl money to go after af full roster of star studded players. Harper is either playing the NIL cars close to his chest with the first season and expecting josh to raise money in the future or we really have no NIL funds.. and I say that because Juco kids arent going to cost you a ton of NIL money, so you can use what you have to target 1 or r high value transfers for that star impact.
Right now at the point we are at i just want to see Pastner put together a team that can compete for a top 2-3 in the MWC this next season. I know a bunch will say no more slow build but UNLV doesnt have the money to compete for a national ranking right now. Middle of the MWC is unaceptable. But if Pastner could get this team top 3 of the MWC and at least a serious conversation of a bubble team then i think first year would be good and give more opportunity for his second year.
I hear you but I believe that we should be shooting for top MWC team year in and year out, finishing 2nd most of the time and finishing 3rd if something like injuries happen.
I know what you are saying and considering where we have been, top 3 is fine but I think Josh can have us at the top when you consider the attributes he brings to the table… ie recruiting, development and his ideas on how to maximize what we have concerning NIL.
I may be one of the few but I believe Josh can have us at the top year in and year out, in the MWC!
Finishing top 3 in the MWC next season gets you an NCAA tournament invite... thats all we should be asking. It also puts you in contention for a conference tournament title

We are in the MWC not the BIG10, SEC heck we aren’t even in the AAC or Big East!
We should be striving for the top of this conference every year regardless and if we fall every once in a while it’s because of what I mentioned above.
We need to get back to being the big bad on the block. The team that had the so-called home advantage that Alford use to complain about come MWC tournament time.
You notice nobody complains about the conference tournament being in Vegas anymore, why because we aren’t a team you need to worry about.
I think we can and should be at the top of the MWC every year and I don’t think that is too much to ask for!

Top 3 will be hard even in the New MWC. GCU will always be tough because the have Jerry Colangelo dumping in NIL money. New Mexico will be tough every year for some unknowable reason. UTEP is excited about "moving up" in conference - I wouldn't doubt the have access to laundered cartel $$ for NIL. Every third year Reno or Wyoming will play out their ass.
