I don't think it growing or shrinking. Don't get me wrong it may appear that way since we shed the MWC contract and signed with ESPN (and extended CBS). The conference itself has a better TV contract overall and the MWC is currently top G5 conference.
This game was always likely to be televised as a opening weekend game. This game being televised is more about the success of NIU than it is about UNLV. Also, it's the first game of a HS turn turn FBS college coach (pretty good storyline and potential lure for viewership). Not that I'm complaining but I think the Irish in Vegas may just be spouting off.
He may know something about new 'doors' opening for UNLV but I don't it has anything to do with the game being televised. I hope he's right and something is happening at UNLV.
