Many on the boards have said that UNLV is no longer an upper tier basketball program. Some have argued that it's essentially a job no upper quality successful coach wants.
I've argued it's a great job if you can find the money to pay for a quality coach (not easy, I understand). Tonight you're seeing major national reaction quickly after news broke about Rice. I've seen major national writers tonight refer to UNLV as a "big basketball school" or this as a "major story". We are not Wyoming or Fresno, people. The name still matters and carries weight. With media, with national college basketball fans and certainly with recruits.
Let's see if the admin and boosters know that too when they start their wish list of coaches. If the top names are assistant coaches or retreads or people with no history of success, that will sadly say a lot.
