First time starting a game thread but I'm excited about this season...

First impressions... too many turnovers and we're playing into UNIs pace. I'm on the east coast so first time I'm getting to see a game live. Let's go Rebels!

UNIs post players are complete monsters. How do you stop those sky hooks? Double teams? They're good.

Win or lose (I hope its a win), this is a tough test and this UNLV team will be better for it when its said and done.

Hahaha screen froze with 0.4 on the clock and the ball in the air. I assume Johnson missed and its going to overtime.

F'ing technology.

7-0 run in about 1 minute...
Koch totally owned McCoy. If not for Clyburn, this would have been a blowout the other way. Oh well, on to Arizona.

Too many bad possessions after we took the lead with 3 mins left. We jacked up at least 3 different 3point attempts early in the clock from far behind the arc.

Mooring's shot selection down the stretch was terrible, but that blocking call on him was probably one of the worst calls in all of basketball this year.

I think the blocking call was the right call, and quite easy to make. He slid under the big man while he was running - that's a foul every time.

Now, you don't often see blocking fouls called on a guy that makes contact with an offensive player without the ball, so you could have an issue with that. But their big guy just had the ball in his hands and the infraction occurred right in front of the ref. Can't not unsee that.

I hope this gives the team extra motivation for Arizona. Other than that this sucks.

'Last 2 minutes in the game was horrendous! 2-3 bad 3s while we were up 4 with under 1.30 min to play. We make 1 basket on his last couple attempts and we win!

The problem I had with the blocking call was by the time contact was made the ball was in the first row on the side. It should been a no call.

McCoy needed a touch in the last 3 minutes. Johnson played hero ball. We needed the point guard to get other people involved and not jack up a three. I hope the guys learn something from this game.

Clyburn has been on fire after not being able to make a shot in the first couple of games.

McCoy with 5 shot attempts for the game says it all. I hope to God this is the last game we play against this miserable conference full of teams that play the same boring grind-it-out style of basketball.
Midwest basketball should be a crime. Some exceptions, of course, but Midwest basketball should absolutely be a crime.

We turned it over 11 more times than they did and only outrebounded them by 4. Throw in any bad shots and we’re playing right into their hands.

Imagine if we won the turnover battle by 11. It’s a totally different game.

Poor guard play did us in. It’s the first time I’ve seen a weak game from Jordan Johnson. I heard the UNI announcers mentioning that he had a triple-double for Milwaukee. I wonder if he’s not accustomed to doing it all. He may have been reverting to old habits, when the game was entirely on his shoulders. He seemed to have forgotten that he has four other talented individuals, some of them very tall, who can make baskets.

And Mooring, at some point, needs to accept that it’s just not his night, for hitting those three-pointers from the side. Maybe look for something else. He played 38 minutes without a single assist. Between them they had 5 assists (all Johnson) and 7 turnovers. Combined they were 5-29. forget the terrible FG%, they shouldn't be taking that many shots. Speaking of FG%'s, the rest of the team shot 21/33 which is almost 64%. The tandem that started in the backcourt shot 17% . The numbers don't lie.

I expect Coach Menzies to use this game as a coaching tool. Among the lessons learned should be that there’s no place for “Hero Ball”. Not to mention, five touches, by the one player who gives us a competitive edge over most teams, is unacceptable.
