UCLA-UNLV preview

Gojoebruin.com takes a look at Bruins vs. Rebels. I've noticed a prevailing pattern in all the previews I've seen. Nobody knows anything about the Rebels but they all agree that they'll be bad. Man, I hope we shock the sh!t outta some people this year!

I have us at -31 versus UCLA. Not quite the 42-0 these guys are predicting but UCLA is going to be very good this year. My spread is a little lower because I think most people expect this to be the same ol' Rebel team from the past. It is not. Plus I think that having a stronger X and O's staff is going to go much further than the Hauck era.

Losing by 31 would be bad. This game is at home which means on the road it would be a 40 plus point loss. Usually a team backs off a lot when they are up by 35 or more points. Even when we played top 5 teams like TCU they would back off late after blowing us out early. I would hope we could either be competitive or keep the loss under 3 TD's/

UCLA was 10-3 last year and finished ranked #10 in the nation. They return 19 starters and preseason ranked between #10 - #15. They are going to be good.

We were 2-11, return 11 starters, implemented new coaching staff and preseason ranked between #110 - #118. While I think we will be better than the preseason ranking, I have a hard time believing it will be less. We are at home and the new coaching staff makes it difficult for UCLA to plan efficiently. If it's closer I'll be happy.

This game could look a lot like the Arizona game last year. I'm as excited as anybody else about the current recruiting class and the future. That said we are still a few seasons away from being competitive with top25 programs. I would love to see an upset but more likely we are looking at something like 49-17.

As long as we're disciplined and don't make a bunch of bonehead mistakes, which was the hallmark of the last two regimes, we'll have something to build on.
