Do you guys think the Reb’s can finish in the top 5? So we can avoid playing 4 games in the conference tournament. Thoughts?

By my math, we should end at either 11-7 or 10-8 in conference which I think gets in the top 5. We need the next two at home (hasn’t been easy against inferior opponents).

Wyoming is a big key to staying in the top 5. Looking at the schedule, UNLV should be favored in most of the games. One of the games UNLV will not be favored in is verse UNR, and they have a legit shot to win the game because it is at home.

Today's game is big. If the rebels win, then they will be tied in losses with a group fighting for third through fifth in the conference. Needless to say, a win will also keep the positive momentum going.

Of course we can. If we continue to play with the re-discovered fire that has carried them through the last couple of games. Looking over the upcoming schedule, three of the next four games are at home. Of course our home record in conference may not inspire a lot of confidence. But their most-recent game, vs the Aztecs, was a good one, so there’s hope that they’ve turned a corner on that.

We have seven remaining games before the MW Tournament begins. Today’s game vs Wyoming will be one of the more-difficult ones. We hope that the Rebels are up to the task. The Cowboys are hot. They are 7-4 in conference, and they’ve won 5 of their last 6 match-ups.

If we can handle Wyoming, we’ll be well on our way to possibly as high as third place. but beside being a hot team, the Wyoming game seems like a perfect let-down spot. We're coming off two well-played road games, vs the top two teams in the league. The teams that are ahead of us in the standings, as of today, are Wyoming, UNM and Fresno St. All are on our schedule, The Cowboys today,Fresno at home and UNM at The Pit.

If we’re playing as well as the last few games, all are winnable. We are definitely a better team than New Mexico. I honestly don’t know how they’ve managed to come up with a 7-5 record at this point. Smoke and mirrors. The Pit used to be an intimidating venue, but we’ve had victories there a couple of times in the last few years, and they've already lost there three times this season, so it’s not that bad anymore.

Fresno St. is a good team, but at 7-5 they find themselves in the middle of the scrum for 4th and 5th place. They’ll be tough to beat at their place, but we took it to UNR at their gym, and our road record is a lot better than our home one. I think it's a game we can win.

Realistically, we will most likely go 5-2 in these final seven games. This will put us at at 11-7. Maybe, if we really shine 6-1, which puts us at 12-6. That would surely be in the top 5. Our destiny lies primarily in our own hands. If we can beat UNM and Fresno, we’ll be well on our way to a bye on day one of the MW Tournament.

Having to win three games, rather than four, is huge. But it’s in our sights. Let's start right now, with the Cowboys. We'll send them back to Laramie, all hog-tied.

It will be interesting to see. This is a huge game tonight.
I’m pretty sure you’ve said the same thing about every game, since your ouster from the Confidential Board. You’ve also predicted dire outcomes for them in most games. You declared that the Rebels were about to get destroyed by Reno. You lamented their successes in relation to our failures. and every game you predict bad outcomes for the Rebels.

You’re like someone who flips a coin calling “heads” every time. Every time it comes up tails. Finally, after eight or ten tosses, it comes up heads, and you cry “Ha! I called it!”

I don’t try to get into unpleasant situations with anyone online. Most especially Rebel fans, but I gotta say, I’m getting an idea about why they ended your association with the CB.

You have shown a propensity for latching on to obvious plot-lines, then tossing them out there, as if they were deep thoughts, followed by “Thoughts?” or “Discuss”. That may, or may not get a conversation going. But on your end, you’ve actually contributed nothing. Unless you’re applying for the job of emcee.

Posters on Rebel-Net (and I admit we are few in number), are usually a bit more informative. They may have an article they’ve found, that they believe the group might find of interest. Or they might have some thoughts on the play of the team, or a player or Coach Menzies. Perhaps there’s a recruit out there that might be of interest.

In my case, although I’m admittedly all over the map, among other things, I frequently try to preview our upcoming opponent. And, of course, we all have thoughts about the most recent game. Win or lose. But to simply post “Can we reach the top 5 of the MW? Thoughts” isn’t really contributing to the discourse, on any substantive level.

As I said, there aren’t many contributors these days, and I have no business running one off, not that I’m trying to run you off. Or judging anyone, for that matter. But perhaps you might at least think about what I’m saying. Maybe it will cause less oustings for you.

Why not? The team has had some major struggles and still is in 5th place right now, and only 1 game behind 3rd. I think the team should aim higher and try to get 3rd. That would mean a real shot at winning the conference tournament.

Team is tied for 3rd now, is 4-1 in the last 5 games, has its first two double digit wins in conference play in the last 5 games and is undefeated in regulation in the last 5 games.

At this point finishing in 5th would be a big disappointment.

Yes. If they stay focused they can and will. That free throw pct. is going to carry them deep in conference so long as they stay hot. Are they hot, or did they figure it out? I'm guessing the latter. They shot 46% from the field, which is good but slightly below their average, 22% from 3, which stinks. This tells me that on a below average shooting game, they can win by rebounding and hitting their free throws. McCoy got there 13 times. We know they have talent. Put it together and staying on course is the key.
