His bio says he’s from WA so I wouldn’t be too upset about losing out to WA ST. However, if this kid is a true target of the coaches and we lose out to Reno and Rice, it will be very disappointing.
The difference between CDR recruiting and CKK recruiting is stunning. Is it competence or a sign of the times? I hope it's just bad recruiting on our part. If the times have changed and it's not possible to recruit at a high level we are in real trouble.
Yeah. Last time we had any big wins was Rice. Last time we played in the NCAAT was Rice. He outschemed notable coaches that had more talent …
Granted, they faltered in conference …
But we had crowds, we had interest, locally and nationally, for teams and recruiting, we had coverage … everything was much “better” compared to now.
I figured it would take 3-4 years to recover and get back to about where Rice had us. And here we are heading into year 8 after Rice and we still won’t approach it. That’s a lot of lost time, a lot of lost everything …
But you don’t have a problem with the “coaching “ of the last few coaches, given that the league is easier and the OOC’s have been easier?
I think Rice COULD coach. IMO it looked liked he had SOME players every year that was talented yet not very coachable oR SOFT AS HELL. That is why he would pout because they would not listen to him. I hoped he would figure it out after a couple more years. Either recruit more coachable players ,but then how good does recruiting last if u cant win when u have the most talented team in the MWC and finish in the middle!
I meant to say that handling his talented players was not in his wheel house but there was some coaching snafus with Rice as well.
He had his issues, no doubt. But we were much closer to where we hoped to be with him than we’ve been without him.
And, tbh, I’d rather be driven crazy by anger for losing one you shouldn’t have or not making it to where you want to be than being unaffected by subpar results.
The difference in expectations and fan interest from anytime pre-2016 to what they are now is gargantuan.
I know, he ONLY beat 10 top 25 ranked teams in a few years while out coaching the likes of Roy Williams, Sean Miller, and Dana Altman. Man we had it rough. Thank god things improved over the last 7 years with better “coaching”.
