I never thought I would see the day when I would get to witness the UNLV FB team lose to San Jose and the UNLV Running Rebels lose to whoever the hell they are gonna play on the same frigging day but it is gonna happen this Saturday. We Suck! We Suck at Football and we suck at Basketball! We just suck.

How in the world do the UNLV Running Rebels, former national champions lose to Texas St. Not Texas Tech, Not Texas A&M, not TCU, not the Texas Longhorns but Texas St. I can’t wait to see the crowd on Saturday after the shit show we put on today.

I am afraid that Saturday is gonna be a really bad day to be a Rebel fan and I hope Bull has something good at the tailgate.

The Rice/Menzies/TJO transition will, unfortunately, set our program back a decade, if it hasn't already. TJO is literally building up from ground zero.

The damage TKM did to our program is up there with what Maxson and Finfrock did, IMO. DRF could join the ranks if the TJO hire doesn't pan out as planned.

Might be even more empty seats with the Golden Knights also playing on Saturday. Wow. I used to think the days when Kruger was coaching the team were frustrating.

And attendance could get worse when the Raiders come to town.

Just take one look at the single game prices for UNLV basketball, which I believe are the highest in the MWC, along with the poor play over the last few years and you can see why attendance is so bad. I don't put this on coach TJO, but do put it on a piss poor athletic department. They have made no effort to reduce the single game prices and still have the illusion that we are actually a good athletic department.

I will do my Bob Uecker impression Saturday evening when I walk into the T & M surveying the lack of attendance and proclaim loudly that “I must be in the front row”. It truly is sad to those of us that have been through the years when we averaged 14,000/gm and were the hottest ticket in town not to mention the old rotunda at the Convention Center which was as good as it got in it’s day.

Sadder still is to think that we are gonna get absolutely destroyed in MWC play this year as our once incomparable home record takes another drubbing relegating the T & M’s reputation to a place where visitors can expect to come for a win and/or to regain their form and get back on track.

Worse yet is that many do not believe that next year’s incoming class is the magic elixir we need to climb up from the depths of despair.

Long term, I don't believe UNLV can compete with the pro teams. Add the threat of NBA or MLB and there could be serious longevity issues.

I would not put another capital dollar into the Thomas & Mack. Only spend O&M. Next time it is decided that a major renovation is needed, either 1: destroy the Thomas & Mack and build a newer, much smaller venue in its place, 2: build a new much smaller venue somewhere else.

Perhaps consider putting UNLV basketball in Cox Pavilion. Can we fill Cox?

The Thomas & Mack center is too big for UNLV hoops.

Hard to believe how far we’ve fallen. Harder to believe that, in general, people don’t care, either. Maxson can die a happy man.
