If UNLV basketball is going to be relevant again, we have to start competing with things like this. If you are a player, where would you rather be?
The Nike shoe promotion seemed to draw more students. An iPhone would pack the section!Drawing at the 5:00 minute mark for those still attending. 1st) New iPhone 2nd) $500 cash 3rd) $250 coupons for chicken wings. 4th) 1 year Netflix subscription 5th - 10th) $ 100 cash
I don’t think so. It was a stop for Drais Freeloader after UNLV though.I was eating at Burger King and 4 older women who support women’s volleyballwere sitting across from Me. Struck up a conversation and told them I would make some games.
its like at a night club. Make it tighter and make it a fun environment.
GCU has already surpassed us. Huge Christian School. No way we compete with that. Didn’t they beat our asses when we were under “MahhhhhValous?”
Do we even have a school?Do we even have a mascot right now?
Grand Canyon University Arena only seats 7,000. That's Ok and even in down years UNLV could fill that up. But when Lon Kruger left UNLV it was in great shape with a top 25 team and top 25 in attendance. The T&M at capacity of 18,500 is much more impressive IMO.If UNLV basketball is going to be relevant again, we have to start competing with things like this. I agree but am having difficulty envisioning it. I mean, the WNBA is kicking our butt, so is NFL and NHL … and probably pro soccer at this point too.We just need to start winning and the atmosphere at the Thomas and Mack will return to a level we are use to! Then everyone will go back to complaining about our “home court“ advantage during the Mountain West Conference Tournament… oh how I miss the days of YBU and Steve Alford complaining about that during the conference tourney!
Agree, we don’t have any rivalries anymore, or at least zero rivalry atmosphere. The transfer portal will be a way of life for non P5 schools like UNLV. I bet it’s delicate but it’s a necessary tool for our football and basketball teams going forward. I just miss the days of that guys wife from YBU injecting herself into the MWC tournament. Oh the days of being hated by the other teams in conference is missed by me!
I barely learn who our players are, let alone our “rivals.” Sports have changed a lot.Agree, we don’t have any rivalries anymore, or at least zero rivalry atmosphere.
UNM, SDSU, BYU, Utah … even Wyoming when they were under McLain.
I gotta admit, hanging out for every single MWCT game was a blast. Even when lessers took the floor, the energy was high. And for the bigger home games during conference season, the place could be electric. And that, for me, is extremely addicting, win or lose. That’s a huge part of what college sports is about to me. And it SHOULD be charged by the student section, though it doesn’t have to be. Whatever it was, I haven’t seen it or felt it in a long, long time. I miss it badly.
Don’t know if it’s me or sports. It’s probably both. I know it’s me to some degree, but if the stimulus was provided, makes it tough to lose interest. But it does seem as if sports in general has dropped a rung or two … huge distractions we’ve never had before and it dominates headlines … broken seasons and half rosters don’t help either.I barely learn who our players are, let alone our “rivals.” Sports have changed a lot.
I agree the transfer portal will be very important for non p5 programs. How a program does will be kind of a microcosm of life in general. Certain coaches are just going to be better at identifying diamonds in the rough who want to transfer. Just like some people can throw a baseball 100 miles an hour, and others can learn six languages in a year, certain coaches will just be better at getting players. Hopefully, CKK is one of those coaches. The transfer portal will be a way of life for non P5 schools like UNLV. Regardless of identifying talent, I feel like it runs much deeper. You can’t discount “fit”. You can think you know … I think you know for sure if somebody is NOT going to be a good fit but it can be hard to tell if someone will be a good fit and not a net negative in spite of their talent level. And with so much less time to actually analyze that (portal moves quickly) … I think there’s a huge element of luck and chance involved.I agree the transfer portal will be very important for non p5 programs.
