Pandemic aside.
A typical basketball season, until recently ...
I’d get nonstop texts during games, which I friggin hate. Only a small handful of people during games. But after games, within 24 hours, conversed with a couple dozen people at least, die hards ... the good, the bad, the ugly of the game.
Or I’d get texts early morning “Big game today, let’s kick the Aztecs ass! Reeeeeeeeb-els.”
“Man, I’m so pumped, I’m not going to be able to focus at work today”
Stuff like that.
Last night, I FINALLY received a text and it’s from an incessant whiner. And for the first time in the 23 years I’ve known him, in his series of texts there were zero complaints about the officiating. Complaints about the Rebels, but that’s common with him too.
But that was the first text I’ve received about a game since our first. Very few last season too.
Nothing in public. No clothes, no chatter. None at work either. Not even in passing.
Info has dried up pretty much too. That’s a combo of the pandemic and the staff likes to keep things close to the vest, which I can always respect. Some outside info is easier, like the entire Zaon thing, info from a very unexpected source that was easy to check up on, info from a couple hours after the accident. But direct info with a look inside? Very minimal.
I can’t say I miss it, but it does feel strange. Feels like a very long chapter of a book is on its last pages.
