I suspect the crowd at Reno tonight will be awful because even though we are their daddy, their product is awful this season.

I won’t be surprised if there’s a way to out of it, UNR and Alford will part ways. Alford has always hated the city, from day 1, the facilities. He hasn’t been happy there from the start.

But crowd size does matter, it really does. I know we say 4230 or whatever it is, we all know it’s half of that in attendance. Even 4320 real bodies game in and game out wouldn’t be enough. I know some describe it as nice and cozy, quaint and comfy …. that’s great for a beach bonfire, not athletic competitions. UNLV is hemorrhaging. Poor crowd sizes/interest cannot be usurped by an occasional big win, an NIT, 4th place finishes. That’s why I said, check out the atmosphere at the Mack. If it’s dead, so is the coach. Not game to game, but a strong generality is enough to show where you are at.

Size matters. Fan interest matters. And without not all wins being created equally - the best way to judge is crowd size/enthusiasm. When Marv won 20, only the super gullible or I bet on Marv coachfans considered it some feat. People that knew a little bit about basketball and weren’t afraid to be honest knew 20 was a joke with a 320+ OOC.

Crowd size matters. Fan interest matters. Recruiting matters, it’s the lifeblood and can feed fans in the offseason. Scheduling matters - cupcake city won’t save you.

It’s all been really bad.
