Rumor has it

He had already removed UNLV from his twitter account last week, and was being really nasty with his comments to some on twitter. It was obvious he was not staying around.

I dont know why all the nasty comments. No one forced him to shoot 35% from the floor, 30% free the 3, 59% from the line and score 6 pts a game. Nasty comments will not get u a new gig at a new school.

PS. I enjoyed watching you play. Good luck to you.

I think it is useful to keep in mind that the current players came to UNLV to play for Dave Rice who had a multiyear contract. So they had every reason to believe that they had committed to a stable situation.

So it ought not be surprising that some of them may feel betrayed by the administration that fired Rice in mid contract and mid season. So if they are feeling less than loyal to UNLV, we ought not be surprised. That begs the question of what may logically be the best path forward for the players on the current roster. Logic has little to do when emotions are running high.

I suggest that we all sit back, as hard as that may be, and let the current scenario play out without making any prejudicial comments about any of the players. They need to do what they think is best for them and some may, unfortunately, vent in ways that they will regret in the future.

If their feeling betrayed, then they need not look any further than their own mirror. The players had a lot to do with why Rice was fired in the first place and they were given every opportunity to help Dave keep his job. They let Dave down not the administration. The administration has a duty to the school, students, faculty, boosters and the fans to put the best product on the court, not this goat rodeo that we've been watching for the past 2-1/2 years. All I can say is if you weren't part of the solution, then you were a part of the problem an the problem with this generation is they have a sense of entitlement as if the school owes them something. You were getting a free education and an opportunity to earn a degree that they could someday go out and parlay into a pretty good living for themselves and their family. Their going to be in for a real shock when they have to go out into the real world and have to actually earn a living and then realize your boss is a jackass, but you know you can't just quit your job because you have mouths to feed and a mortgage to pay. If they want to leave then I say let me go and good riddance. I want guys who play for the name on the front of their jersey not the name on the back.

i think it's a bad move for him. he'd probably start next season. i don't know why he'd want to sit out a year and figure things out all over again from scratch. i understand he will be getting a new coach regardless so that's tough, but at least he knows Las Vegas a bit.

to each his own, BUT i'd suggest to him to get back to ordering the double doubles because he trimmed down too much and his jump shot got awfully crooked this season. last year he was a marksman.

Forget Dave Rice being fired and them being betrayed (lol) as the reason they're leaving, these kids wanted out anyway. Rice wasn't delivering the goods and that was unlikely to change Jan 11 thru season's end. Cornish had one foot out the door already.

I bear none of our players any ill-will, should they decide to stay, or to leave. But I agree with the poster who said, if they’re feeling let-down by the coaching turmoil, at least part of the blame lies with themselves.

There were numerous opportunities for them to rise to the occasion and pull out a win. The Arizona State game, which began the 3-game slide that led to the firing of Rice, was an absolute choke-job. Sure, the coach bears some responsibility, for being unable to spur his team on as they absorbed a 22-5 run by the Sun Devils in the second half, on their home court, but the players fell apart.

So good luck to any players who decide that they no longer wish to be a Rebel. But be kind on your way out please…

Ya, if they want to move on and get their next coach fired too then so be it. No cancer in the locker room!!

We had two of the worst seasons ever. Its a good thing that the weak minded are being weeded out. The players that choose to stay and play for that name across their chest will be better players and become fan favorites in this town.

I'm ready for some tough minded basketball period! Im ready to watch coaches and players with fire in their eyes!!! Go Rebels! Here's to a great 25 years.

If Ben comes back and has another year like he did, he will have the respect of every Rebel fan and will always be loved here.

This really is a chance for some of these guys to be remembered for more than never living up to the hype.

Hopefully Beard can get the guys on the fence to stay but the reality is an exodus of players is the norm during any regime change.

Let them all transfer at this point, If they came to play for a coach and not a school/city then we will be better off leaving... A lot of help they did for said coach. I think each and every player are great, could be really good under a coach like Beard with his intensity and defensive chops, but if they arent willing/dont want to stay to learn and get better, thats fine. I dont fault the ones leaving for the NBA or overseas for ball, or say DJ who got screwed by the NCAA, but Im tired of hearing the old argument that they came to play for a coach and now will leave because their poor collective play got said coach fired... Maybe a clean sweep would be good for entire program at this point. Like I said, Id love for them to come back and fight for the team and city, but Im not going to hear anymore of this "I came for coach Rice" BS, because if that was the case, they would've listened during TO's and played the way he coached them to, instead of at times wild, un-organized pickup style ball...

Not if he came to play for Rice as he has stated multiple times.
Well, unless they are all following Rice whats the difference? New coach wherever they go, I seriously could care less if a single player came back but it is a sad commentary on society today, when things become challenging run. nobody values the process anymore or at least very few, but oh well I guess those that do will have an easier pathway to success. Imagine if Buddy Hield had quit or transferred or left early pretty good for a relatively anonymous 3 star I'd say. We need high character guys, winners nit these damn whiny players and coaches we've had here the past few years. Dave Rice sure made an impact on his alma mater..........

Yup agreed its time to toughen up, fans included lol. Beard is the right guy to put some steel back in the Rebels play. I'm looking forward to hearing "DEFENSE, DEFENSE" rocking the Mack!!!

Seems like the majority of high D1 basketball players these days commit to coaches and systems as opposed to schools and cities.

It would be nice if all our future players felt loyalty to the school and the Las Vegas community but I think a much more realistic hope would be that they buy into Chris Beard and want to work their butt off for him.

Loyalty to the school is just not the real world. Before I started working for myself, I took numerous jobs because I had a working relationship with the person who asked me to come and work for that company. On several occasions, I left jobs because the person who hired me also left. While in blue collar jobs it may be true that your loyalty is to the company and not the job, as you go to higher positions, you tend to have more loyalty to the person that brings you on board. I look at the higher level 4-5* players as being those type of higher level people that are hired by the coaches, and the lower level 2-3* players as the blue collar workers. This is just my observation of things.

If any fo those players do stay on board, it will be due to the ability of Beard quickly build a new relationship with these players. I see nothing wrong with it either way since student also routinely leave schools and go to other schools to finish there education. How many students that start at UNLV in the undergraduate program end up getting their undergraduate degrees at other universities, and vice versa?

I am surprised also regarding possibility of Carter leaving UNLV. He was the one player I expected would stay and become the leader, but they need to do what is best for them.

Didn't surprise me, I heard the rumblings before the thunder..

It's all good, he could end up kicking himself if Beard pulls another Little Rock-type season.
