Here’s where we are at.
Historical attendance lows, historic basketball revenue losses.
What would it take to get to break even next year, in terms of attendance?
Something similar to the last four years? Of course not.
Essentially being a legit bubble NCAAT team? That’s better, would help, but too much has been lost, people are reluctant to return after the evidence, and even if you creep towards it, an unexpected loss crashes it. That’s just the way it is right now. If you play the slow growth game, your fuel is patience. And we are on E.
Crack the top 25 and hover there, give or take a little, stay near the top of the MWC … yeah, that’d work.
Now ask yourself. Without playing the lame 45 ifs game, needing all to come out positive … and without blind faith being used … ask yourself, using the last 4 years as your actually evidence … is this something that you believe KK can accomplish?
Let’s say we have a mediocre year next season. Is the loss in revenue greater than the buyout? And as much as money, you’re going to trickle away more fans. And just goodwill, reputation, etc. Of course, make an uninspiring hire and the same thing could happen …
The article today doesn’t change anything. Yes, it may cost a bit more but we are also at (the accepted) takes money to make money phase. Let UNLV FB serve as a model. Hire and keep poor performers, you lose lots of cash. Spend a little bit more than you wanted, you can actually make money.
If Harp fires, he NEEDS a really good hire, not a Pasternak, not a Turner. If he doesn’t fire, all the good he has done with FB could be completely undone if CKK doesn’t perform. Is he willing to take that risk?
Also, about money, UNLV ain’t rich. And they’ll never get a ton of cash. But we thought that with football and found a way for staff and by MWC standards, an outstanding FB NIL.
