89 years old complications from Pneumonia.

my brother played for him. He did a lot of good for UNLV football. Won some big games, beat Reno and brought some NFL talent to UNLV and national exposure.

He was very good to my brother and my parents.

Rest in peace JRob.

He gave us a short flash of brightness in an era of darkness. And he did bring professionalism and a bigger vision to the school. He was a gentleman, too.

Sad news. I remember attending the press conference announcing him as coach. It was huge news back in the day, especially given where UNLV was at as a school and program then.

Took a trash team that was perennially losers and lost 16 in a row to beating SEC, Big12, and even ranked BigTen programs.

Led the charge to refurbish and renovate the SBS. He did a lot of good work at unlv and represented very well. Brought credibility back to the program.

Unfortunately he was too old and unlv didn’t make it any easier by laying the AD job on him as well.

RIP JROB thanks for the memories!

RIP, Coach John Robinson. UNLV Head Coach 1999 to 2004.
You were a great coach at USC and put UNLV, on the National Spotlight.
A better man, that will be missed. Thank you. Coach.

Damn. Was the coach when my fan hood for UNLV all began. Great coach and by all accounts an even better man.

Quite the legacy to leave behind.
Me too. He was the coach while I was a student and probably THE reason why I have followed UNLV football through all of the lean years. It was fun to go to games back then we were a legit program. 20 years later and we finally have it again

USC fan growing up. Dude was my hero. Couldn't believe it when we hired him. Got to know him very well while he was here. Remember him coming into Pooch's office with Kevin Thomas' jersey from the Baylor game that was soaked in red gatorade bc they were giving it to him and his family. Nicest guy ever.

Big sad.

The AD job really wasn't the issue for Robinson. His wife came down with cancer while he was coaching, and from there to the end of his time at UNLV he was no longer the coach that first came and turned the program around.
