Power Ranking

Awful. Just awful.

More time. You can see we are on the brink of playing high pressure defense and our ball movement and crisp cuts tell you baskets galore are right around the corner.

Give it time. Have patience. You are seeing the inklings of brilliance materialize. It’s a slow growth, but growth nonetheless.

Only because CKK has to work against the following (but this is also why he needs more time):

Reason 1
Reason 2
Etc.
But there’s the caveat. Allowing for the slow growth philosophy, a coach doesn’t have to actually produce anything at all until year 5 when we are sure every single player is his own, so we can ensure they have his vision.

Only then may a coach be criticized for performance. Because, after all, they’ve forgotten more basketball than we will every know, they’re the pros, they know what they are doing, we are just stupid, ignorant fans and our opinions don’t matter.

After five full seasons, if a coach is let go - the reason isn’t because he didn’t get the job done, it’s not because he wasn’t qualified, it’s not because he’s just not a very good coach. He just ran out of time.

Wasn’t going to start a new thread but I just saw that Sacramento just canned Mike Brown, I know some years ago he was being considered for the job at unlv after Rice or Menzies was canned.

That’s where I think we will finish and it’d be good enough for an NIT and new hiring. IMO.
We need change . Regardless on how we finish. If we go on some miracle run it going to be real hard to fire CKK. We are not devoid of talent and the MWC just keeps on getting weaker and weaker. So it not out of the realm of possibilities. I say 10-15% chance we go dancing. When we play Utah St, NM, and Boise St that will give us a real indicator where we are. We play AF tomorrow. We are -7.5 favorites. I could see us drop that game also.

Absolutely no way in hell UNLV ever loses to Air Force! What did you say? Air Force beat UNLV 90-58! You are on drugs, no way in hell is UNLV

that bad! Damn, didn't know that Air Force was as good as the Harlem Globetrotters, I guess that makes UNLV the Washington Generals?

The lack of attendance is enough to make a change. Maybe if he goes to a FF he will be retained. Outside of that, even us diehard fans are hoe-hum about the program.
I know players of the past, legends and even …. The ones that still actually care are ready to move on. Some don’t even know how we’re actually doing. Can you imagine that? It’s like a child of theirs and they have no idea where they are at and they really don’t care. They’ve massacred the program.

Easy to say watch somebody else instead. We can’t. It’s what we love. Just horrifically disappointed and dejected of what we’ve become.

And it’s not like this was a sudden, knee jerk response. I think most here have fired off warning shots over the past decade, easily recognizing what was happening and where we are heading. The iceberg was miles and miles away and we screamed at the top of our lungs. But the university didn’t care and the Kumbaya Krew shouted, don’t worry, be happy, everything is alright, don’t criticize anything or you aren’t a true fan like I am. They love the coaches, not the program. They’re too soft skinned to call things out when it sits on their face.

Smdh. The Maxsonites and the Slow Growth Kumbaya Klan won and they’re getting what they so ardently support.

So what’s the status of Whaley?? I know he has a back injury but I’ve heard nothing on the status of his return. While this team is balanced and has the ability to compete in conference when they shoot well, I don’t see them having a legit shot at winning the MWCT without Whaley.

Then consider us not having a legit shot at winning it.

They are focused on the goal… of not coming in last in the league. (Ok, I added this last part)

3 wins in a row against the bottom 2 teams of the MWC and another team that p
Would struggle against those two. Great accomplishment. Lets see how they do after the next give me win against sjsu.

They’ve pretty much done what they’re supposed to beat. Which equates to no good wins, no bad losses. Which doesn’t get them anywhere, but it doesn’t DQ them from anything. So there’s “life”. After the next game, it’ll be the same, a win vs SJSU.

The 10 games after that will determine the season. Not many chances for good wins. If they go 7-3 or better and they’ll still be “alive”. Go 5-5 or worse, forget it. They’d be in “let’s pull and upset or two down the stretch and win a game in the MWCT to get firmly onto that NIT bubble” land.

To be honest, 9-4 is probably where they should be at this point, but 8-5 is what I expected. Their losses came at the hands of Memphis, Miss St., Creighton, Dayton who are all either top 25 teams or have been at some point during the season. Northwestern is the only loss that I felt should have been a win.

Our path to the Tourney. 1. Win the MWCT. or 2. Be in the top two of the league ( in the past 15 years that means 4.6 conference losses for second place or 2.8 losses for first place- so lets say 4 losses or 2 losses since the league is on a down year). Therefore we need to split w USU, New Mexico, Boise and SDSU ( For first place split with only 2 ) and win all the rest. That would give us zero Q 4 losses, 1 (3 for first place) quad 1 win and 6 quad two wins.

Utah State is a paper tiger that has played an incredibly weak schedule!

They did beat Iowa, at St Mary's, at San Diego State, and at UNR.
Their only loss was to UC San Diego (bad loss).

That's not a terrible schedule, or at least it doesn't sound terrible to me. Maybe those teams still have the 'name' associated with them but not the skill that they typically do. I don't know.

Not saying UNLV is a good team, but in comparison they have had a much harder schedule so far. The only win for Utah State over a ranked team is over SDSU by 1. I believe they are similar to the UNLV team from 2015 and 2017 that started out really strong and then hit the meat of the MWC schedule and fell on their faces.

A split makes you think, win at home, lose on the road, obviously.

Our home record has been pretty damn weak for a long time. And there is no home court advantage when we are getting a couple thousand.

Aren’t we typically losing 5 or 6 home games per year, half of those in conference?
