There can be a false equivalence with fiery. Sure, it looks good, sounds good, gets you pumped.

I was pumped when Sanford chased down an AD and tripped over the two yard line. Did you hear Sanchez and his GATA? Arroyo got fired up too. Bayno was ultra fiery and everyone wanted him fired.

Lon was vanilla as F and had success here.

I just don’t buy fiery for results. For effect, yes.
Firey definitely doesn't equal results. Tony Dungy was another bland as anything but excellent coach. But in the absence of results as a fan it is nice to see someone give the outwards appearance that they give an F.

I mean the program is dead though, practices and games are like funerals. We were on our way to being bottom feeders in this shitty conference.

You need someone with some energy and cockyness to get this program out of its coma. It’s hard to focus whenever CKK spoke, had zero authority and it showed on the court.

We need a coach that’s not going to hide behind the brand and instead run in front of it.
I really do not know much about this coach, except it appears he has a lot of energy, and he took on to almost impossible jobs when it come to success. He did great at Memphis until they moved up to a really strong ACC at which point they were playing against the big boys. It is really hard to know what would have happened if he had more time in the ACC? As for Georgia Tech, they have been struggling for the last 20 years.

I have no clue if this is a good or bad hire, but at least I do feel like he will have a lot more energy!

I actually misjudged our fans based on these results. About 80% with a C or higher, almost 50% with an A or B, only 20% D or F.

I kind of expected it to be flipped.
I went C and expected to be among the highest grading on this site.

Georgia Tech is a crap job. It's tough. Academics (not sure if those truly matter for getting in or if athletes get a pass). Lower budget than most peers, I'd assume. At the time, he had 2 games a year against Coach K, Boeheim, Roy Williams, among others, and the program history since 2000 is worse than UNLV.

Memphis I think is interesting. Definitely had more support coming off the heels of Calipari than he will get here. Moderate success, not incredible. By the end, going solely off record, it kinda seems like how UNLV feels right now.

Sounds like the guy will be able to recruit decently and is connected enough to get a good staff. Biggest concern is something we have seen here. Xs and Os. Recruiting will invigorate the base in the preseason. Just don't be a disaster. Hope the NIL tourney doesn't destroy us. I have concerns....

I did the same, a C. The hire does not thrill me by any stretch, but doesn’t make me throw up my hands like the Marv hire did. I see upside, I see downside. Fingers crossed, not blind faith, just a little hope.

Echoing that sentiment.

Because of all the uproar within our fickle fanbase, I bought basketball season tickets for the first time today.

B

- High energy at 47 years old
- has experience running high pressure programs and in competitive conferences.
- can get wins in conference tournaments/postseason play.
- “tireless” recruiter
- brings energy to the sidelines.
- media savvy, can sell the program.
- assistant to Lute, Kevin O’Neill, Cal (translation: he’s connected in coaching circles)

On the other hand, doesn’t have crazy high success stories. Bombed out at two other programs but even so, they can be learning experiences and he can avoid the same problems here at UNLV.

I’m cautiously optimistic and looking forward to his presser where he tells us where we’re going.
I'm with Warren!

If we had the funds($2-4 million a year) and ended up with Pastner I would've given the hire an F. However knowing we are not in any position to hire at that pay level I gave the hire a B also due in part that we didn't get into an embarrassing merry-go-round of coaches using us as a bargaining device. He's not the best, cetainly not the worst, and he's got a sliver of upside. Finally, the vacancy was filled quickly after plan A blew up in our face. So B minus.

Final death blow to you?

This program has been a disaster for decades. UNLV BB has won NCAA tourney games in only 2 seasons since '90-91.
I would've told you to lay off the crack(not meth, this would've been back in the 90s) for uttering such nonsense! Unbelievable statement for the program's fall from grace.
