PG Howard Fleming Jr

H.S Ball in Louisville - second team all state. Played two years at Illinois State - bench player getting minutes in most games. Transferred to Winthrop - appears he redshirted for medical ( Ankle and Hip ) . Transferred to Texas Rio Grande - breakout year playing well averaging 12 pts 6 rebounds. Up and down three point shooter But average 42% last year. If he continues to play like last year he could be a piece for CJP. At least he's experienced but he'll be up against way more talented players.

Size wise, yes!
Let’s see him run Josh’s system first before any further comparisons or slander!
Sorry but look at his tape, he’s a well rounded PG with excellent size. Not afraid to go get rebounds either. He’s not going to get bullied on the court in conference play either.

If I’m building a team from scratch, that’s the type of point guard I’d get. Exactly the type of point guard.

Clearly CJP has been spending hours going over tape from last year and also on future rebels really identify and hone in on specific needs.

Rebounding has been a problem for years, shooting has been poor, tempo on offense is garbage etc.

I still think we can get more length or add another key forward that gets rebounds and plays solid D.

I think this is overrated!

Remember Drake had 4 or 5 D2 players and the step up in competition didn’t bother them too much!

Yeah we will see on this one. There is a reason he played for these nothing schools and was a bench player at that for two years. And the other schools recruiting him now didn't indicate a player who made a huge leap. I think he did well in an awful conference and he will be a bench player here. Or maybe a bench player who is forced into starting because that is where we are at now with NIL.

Think Curtis Terry!

Think Curtis Terry!
That is probably the high point if we got him as a senior that would be great. I think we get him as a sophomore type production but hopefully I am wrong and he does make a more senior Terry type leap.

Weird that most of his highlight packages he's either penetrating from the wing or catching and shooting on the wing. If you wouldn't have told me he was a PG, I would have said he's a SF.

Good size and strength, doesn't appear to be super athletic for his frame but can finish at the rim a bit. Release is smooth if a little slow and low. If he is a PG, I don't like seeing that his best year of ATORatio at 1.07 and TO% is at almost 20 (though individual TO% is a weird stat because it includes FGA and FTA so a guy like Mark Wade has a much higher TO% because of him not shooting). I also get a little nervous when a guy is a career .500 TS% guy and then he jumps up suddenly to .653 which is #1 in the Southland last year and would be 7th all-time at UNLV between Michael Johnson and Kas Kambala Hard to evaluate this one because of how different all his metrics are last year compared to the rest of his career.

Former Reb Devin Tillis averaged 13 points last year in a similar conference so it's hard to tell What players are capable of when moving up. I know Tillis was recruited over and pushed out at UNLV

Does this signing of Howie Fleming mean no Mikey Williams and/or no JJ Taylor visits?
This is like the third or fourth time youve asked lol. JJ Taylor was never going to visit here; it was just brought up that he was Mikeys teammate and good friend and that he was in the portal. I personally dont see how theres space for Mikey, but I may be wrong.

Perhaps we just stockpile talent and let them fight it out.

I’m nothing if not persistent! Lol

JJ Taylor was the one I was hoping for, we need an experienced guy like him, even from a lower level conference. A longer wing guy or two and we still need a PF and another C!

Tillis was a 3 year starter who showed general improvement each of his years there. His raw shooting numbers were amazingly consistent--no real outliers, and his advanced metrics showed solid seasonal growth each year. He didn't bounce up and down, didn't deal with any injury and then have one hyper-inflated season that you couldn't decide if the product you were seeing was real or a statistical anomaly. There's a reason where UVA paid ACC money for Tillis and Fleming got UNLV money.

I know Tillis was recruited over and pushed out at UNLV
Till was an Otz guy, got more and more minutes and starts as 2021 went through the conference season and was looking like a key piece of Otz's rotation, but didn't appear to have P4 talent and when Otz skedaddled Kevin didn't retain him--whether that's from the staff's decision or Devin's I can't say. But he didn't get pushed out or recruited over--the staff that recruited him left.

Well Tillis just ended up at Virginia this portal cycle. Know they just had a down year, but thats not nothing.

Tillis is at UVA in his senior year after scoring 13pts a game against the likes of San Diego, Pacific and the like. He was a fish out of water while here.

Why don’t we wait and see what Fleming does before saying he’s better or worse than a guy who has more experience than him and also plays a different position!

I would go with that last one there is no guarantee this guy pans out and I sure wouldn't be hanging my hat on him being a quality starter.

Everyone else is listed.. Did he actually commit or not, why is he not listed?
Never mind!

I saw that UNLV Basketball had a “signed” announcement for Flemming. But he is not on either transfer portal recruiting site 247 or On3, I thought those sites were real time and updated often, oh well!

Dude you seriously need to chill out. You’re too emotional.
Dude shut up!

We have never met, and it’s arrogant for you to say anything about who I am based on posts from a message board.

You’re right, we’ve never met. So all I have to go by is what you present on this site. And what you present is that you’re overly emotional and take things way too personal when you have no reason to. I think I’ll make you my pet project.

Fair enough!

And you can think whatever you want about me, life goes on. We all have opinions but because you feel the way you do doesn’t make it true.

So keep that in mind the next time you want give thoughts on something and you have no clue what you are talking about!

And if me speaking on something when it concerns UNLV football or basketball bothers you, keep scrolling, I don’t remember asking your thoughts on things… again very arrogant on your part!

See, there you go again acting all fragile. You just can’t stand the fact that someone either questions you (or at least in your mind is questioning you) because it either hurts your ego or your feelings.

Either way, you’re either very narcissistic, insecure or you have anger issues. My 2 cents is that you should get some help.

The last thing anyone will ever accuse me of, is being arrogant. A smart ass? Yeah for sure, but arrogant? No.

I’m not the one who calls out people with exclamation points for no reason, essentially yelling at them to “get off my grass!”. At times you remind of that crazy guy downtown that we’ve all seen who is yelling and shadow boxing at seemingly nothing and nobody. It’s a little disturbing.

OK folks, It's time to grab the popcorn and get ready to watch the rumbbbble
