Paul Westhead for UNLV? (speculation)

Not at Loyola. Run down, first guy shoots. Fun, but, no pattern at all.

Defense was to let the other team shoot, hope they miss.

Much better in the NBA.

Come on dude....look up some youtube videos on "The System", and watch the 30 for 30 special on him.

We watched it in real time, not on an ESPN special. It was the only game I ever heard Tark predict ahead of time that we were going to crush the other team. He would make UCSB sound like the number one team in the nation but, when we meat LMU in the NCAA tournament, Tark knew ahead of time what the outcome was going to be.

It wasn't poetry, as you said. They were exciting so I'm not taking that away from them. However, it wasn't always a thing of beauty.

I disagree. I studied his system for quite some time. There was a method to his madness. People said the same thing about Van Gogh and Francis Bacon. Stop simplifying things.

It was funny, I was sooooo worried about LMU. But you're right, Tark NEVER was overconfident, quite the opposite. He always thought they were in danger of losing. With LMU, he wasn't worried.

I was 21/22, I think I got caught up in the emotion of it, "team of destiny stuff", then you see Bo and Jeff on Arsenio (show was hot at the time) predicting a big win because they'd fatigue UNLV. I couldn't sleep.

The style was incredible to watch, so entertaining. And there was a method to the madness for sure. But defensively, it was gamble on everything, don't worry about layups and open shots.

It's hard to criticize because it certainly worked.

I dont think it would work as well today though.

Great point! When I think of Van Gogh, Bacon, Michelangelo, Einstein, etc I also think of Westhead's basketball game plan. I'm sorry for being so simple minded.

Both required insight and genius to implement. There was a system to those painters, there was a system to Westhead.
