This is a year old interview. But it gives some decent insights on some of his basketball thinking.
He might.I heard Josh say he likes recruiting, good to know, because even though NIL has made things more on the front end “how much?” You still have backend with some lower level or younger guys and I think this is where Josh will shine for UNLV recruiting!
I think for the G5 and lower tier P5 schools it's going to boil down to the coaching staffs best able to pull together a completely new team every year. Long term player development is dead. Guys like Pastner might actually excel in this environment. Wouldn't that be something? He might.
But then the concern becomes, too inexperienced, not where they need to be just yet, limited minutes, develop over time … and then we are back to - do we have enough money to keep them now that he’s able to contribute minutes?
Exactly!I think for the G5 and lower tier P5 schools it's going to boil down to the coaching staffs best able to pull together a completely new team every year. Long term player development is dead. Guys like Pastner might actually excel in this environment. Wouldn't that be something?
No more secret extensions after the first year. ( I'd amend this with a Big Dance entry )Exactly!
There’s no doubt about this being the approach now and I think Josh is a guy who welcomes this new challenge!
1.) Recruiting the way we knew it is long gone!
2.) Paying top dollar to build a team for us not even remotely possible due to the lack of a billionaire!
3.) The sooner we adapt to the reality the sooner we can have a winning program!
Josh comes in having already wrapped his head around numbers 1, 2 and is all over number 3 because his thoughts on recruiting now were mentioned on one of his press conferences.
I believe because of the realities of NIL and how it’s changed things, we are in good hands with Josh!
The next dilemma, coming up with enough money to keep him two years from now!
It’d be great, but takes away from the OP of recruiting under recruited younger guys.I think for the G5 and lower tier P5 schools it's going to boil down to the coaching staffs best able to pull together a completely new team every year. Long term player development is dead. Guys like Pastner might actually excel in this environment. Wouldn't that be something?
