OT: Luka for AD Trade

The Lakers always end up on the receiving end of these epically stupid decisions by teams. Luka is a generational player on offense who is 25 and Dallas got someone with an injury history with maybe two years left. They got AD in the first place the same way. I think the commissioners push this. When my son told me this morning I told him you can’t believe what you read on social media because I thought it was a joke.

I am a Knicks fan. When I heard the news last night, I thought it was a joke. Most Knicks fans thought it was a joke. Unless there is a very strong reason not made public, like a Luka drug problem, alcohol problem or injury, the Dallas GM should be fired.

Back when it was Jerry and Jerry’s team I used to say if the Lakers call you about a trade you hang up because you are going to get screwed.

I’m a Lakers fan but don’t watch much NBA and watch zero NBA if the game doesn’t include the Lakers so I haven’t seen Doncic play much at all but obviously know what he does.

Imagine that the UNLV AD decides to fire KK at the end of the season, UNLV did not proactively contact any potential coaches or agents in advance, and the boosters tell the UNLV AD that they can help pay a salary of 7 million per year to the next mbb coach and 10 million per year in mbb nil. UNLV interviewed 3 applicants 1 day after the firing: Wade, Wright and Menzies. Wade and Wright say no and UNLV immediately hires Menzies, without interviewing anyone else, for 6 million dollars per year, praising themselves for the cost savings and the fact that Marvin can start work immediately. The boosters then cancel the commitment of NIL and many remaining fans cancel season tickets. That is the equivalent of what the Dallas GM did. The worst UNLV AD from the past 30 years made better decisions than the current Dallas GM. I am glad I am both a Knicks and Jazz fan but we were never gifted trades like that. From a Knicks fans standpoint, we "hate" the Lakers and Celtics. Whenever the Lakers or Celtics are down, they seem to get trades like this. Fortunately, the Knicks finally have good management and are contenders.

Nuts to think that in 2022 the Mavs had a core of Brunson (Mavs played contract hardball and didn't want to give him a 5 year/55 million contract and let him walk to the Knicks who paid 4/104 and has been worth every penny), Porzingis (traded for Bertans and Dimwiddie and still cost the Mavs a 2nd), and Luka (traded for a 2029 1st rd pick and AD almost assuredly because they didn't want to give him a Supermax).

I'm a Sixers fan, so at this point I know something about bad front office (The Process, Ben Simmons, Markelle Fultz, letting Jimmy Butler walk, The Beard, PG13, and on and on). But I swear the Mavs are now being run not as a basketball team, but as a business and as long as they don't tank on purpose, Adam Silver LOVES players moving from a 2nd tier market to a 1st tier market.

In my text chat with my Brother in law (Lakers fan) and my Sons, I said......"I see the NBA forced the Mavs to trade Doncic to the Lakers". Anytime the Lakers look like they might suck for a while they pull off a miraculous trade that makes absolutely zero sense for the other team.
