OT: Ian Hurricane from Sarasota

Dang man, it looks like it's heading right at you in Sarasota. I hope you're at some higher elevation in town, as the storm surge and rain looks like it's gonna be rough. Stay safe!
8:03 now, nothing but drizzle. The National Hurricane Center changed it centre to Engelwood. About 50 miles south of here. Everybody think this thing is predictable year after year. Irma, a few years ago was destined to hit Sarasota. So I packed up and went to Jacksonville. Well, it did not hit Sarasota but hit Jacksonville instead. These guys in the link are good but they dont/can't predict that cold front from Canada will do to Ian. No storm ever hit Sarasota or Bradenton, ever..Tampa yes, in 1921. Never Sarasota.
My front door and rear door are open and my fans are on. And my fans are on. I am wearing shorts and no shirt, dammit.
most of my staff are Hispanic. Some are Cubans, they are laughing at this fear dispelled to get funding
Not to make light of it but Ron White did a joke about a guy trying to prove his “strength” by being chained to a pole during a hurricane. The guy said that he was in good enough shape and health to survive the 100+mph winds.
The punchline was “that it’s not THAT the wind blows but WHAT the wind blows. If you get hit by a flying Volvo it doesn’t matter how many push-ups you did that day.”

Yeah, from what I've seen, it may not be the wind that is the problem, but the flooding and storm surge.
Yes, most deaths by hurricanes are flood related. Brain dead is cause by the wind constant noise. This storm will probably last for two days with that constant Shhooooooooooo noise. I am just gonna get drunk and sleep through it...
I went through Irma for a brief time in a hotel in Jacksonville. The noise was bad. I was well lit during that time. It is not good, man....the noise and movements are crazy.
I am in my own home now in Sarasota. Not going anywhere . Like I've said, I will post until the power go out.
Oh by the way, my house is never ever going to flood unless the entire city is under water. I am on a higher ground with rear canal drain into Myakka River State Park.
Thank you to the both of you for the concern. I know what I am doing. I would never put my family in danger. My house is solid if it hit. So much foods and water...I can probably and will share with our neighbours . WE're good!

Morning it is 6:10 a.m. A slight breeze and drizzle. Supposedly it will get up to 80 MPH wind here in Sarasota. Cooking some pancake for the boys. They're awake.
Power flicker a little..all good, man. Doors wide open now. humid.
6:26 am. wind picking up intermittently . The star fruits are dropping ...making some thud sound.
When the Myakka River overflow, fishes like tilapia, catfish, alligator gars, bass goes wild. Walking around with a baseball bat and smacking them...
Unlike freshwater fishes mentioned above, saltwater fish tend to go into the deeper water. They dont like the freshwater.
8:53 wind is picking up. Wind is from the North, it is a good sign. You never want to see wind from the south end where you live.
10:52 am Any minutes now, the eye is about to make land fall. Still intermittent wind. Once it make land, the wind will become constant.
11:11 Almost Cat 5 now at 155 MPH

Hopefully it stays that way. From what I've seen this morning, this thing is up to a Cat 4, and some indications that it's a Cat 5. Stay safe bro.

12:22 p.m. Finally! Made the land fall. Wind is constant now in Sarasota and it still blowing Northward. Nevermind, the wind is calm now
12:29 The eye is landing in Punta Gorda. Where the hell is RWAC? He probably listened and evacuated.

12:51 Trees are bending at my neighbours' homes. Wind is still Northward. My front door face South. I still have my front doors (yes, I have two) propped open. Got some deer meat out off the freezer for later. Montreal Steak seasoning and Dos Anclas (Argentinian's...you guys can get it from Amazon) should be perfect. Edit: I like my meat a little spicy, so I add some black pepper and some crushed pepper I saved from ordering pizzas. Plus, I love adding single malt bourbon to marinate my red meats. 15 minutes marinated and charred it on the outside and bloody on the inside. Beef, lamb, and vennison only.
1:17 final warning from Sarasota County. NO MORE emergency help. What? Goosenberries giving me explosive diarrhea. I hope they dont turn off the sanitation service.
130 Florida Power turn off electricity. Back to basics. Personal hot spots are good. Water is still flowing.

Looks like the north eye wall will be moving up towards you guys. For your sake, hopefully it stays south.
I dont know if anything matters. It is whipping right now at 100+ MPH constantly. My home is so solidly built and designed (custom made) it doesn't seems to matter. I need to clean up my koi pond in the backyard and pick up all the leaves. My family are chilling and take a look in the front yard what 150 MPH look like.....

It seems like the worst of it took a right hand turn from what they were expecting, so it doesn't sound like you guys will get the brunt of it. Glad to hear your home is holding up and you guys are well.
I thought the hurricane was in Las Vegas. The lightning from this morning was ridiculous! Whats the chances of a lightning storm in Vegas and a Cat 4 hurricane in Florida happening at the same.

One question: I have 4 freezers and 3 refrigerators.. what kind of a generator should I get? Yes, my wife is preparing for end of world type of food storage. I love her, so I need some advice
I think you'd want to figure out the total power consumption of the devices, then look up generator sizes based on that. Diesel generators are more expensive but apparently better quality with less required maintenance than gas ones. I'm not an expert, but just read up on them a while back and am considering one also
Before we ever moved to Florida we had our plan in place. I always said, If I big ass hurricane comes my way -i'm going to GTFO - I never understood how and why people stick in place? all the animals know... - they were all heading east the day before like us. and thats what I did, we spent a few days in Miami to avoid IAN, now home to pick up the pieces. It was very sad but #floridastrong will rebound. LIving in Paradise (tropics) is what it is - you take the bad with the good - it IS totally worth it. I love Florida

Ya can't help but love our Gov, he takes a commonsense approach to what is best for his constituents. Nevada's Gov Jackass should be hung by the people of Nevada in public at Noon tomorrow in Carson City Town sqaure !!! thats what I think about his sellout sloppy fatass !!! I have a lot less shade in my backyard now after IAN, all the trees are gone...lol..but we are good and safe ..all is good !

Ya ever been to Florida? its flat as a pancake.. The only elevation is in High Rise buildings. Not a mountain in site for like 500 miles... I went to Miami and avoided it. TRip stayed home and shit bricks..lol. It could have been very very bad for us, we are close to the water. 4th worse hurricane in FLORIDA history EVER.. the destruction I witnessed is nothing I want to talk about, thats what the news is for is to "detail the horror". It was very very sad.
Glad your good TRip. You know this one was a little scary. Not your average hurricane - My girls were scarred out of their mind. They're from the desert. A couple days w/o power was not looking like fun so i went to MIami. I had free rooms with Hilton so tried to make the best of it. Driving home up the 75 yesterday - right before they closed it - the water was coming up and rising in North Port...it was a TRIP ----(no pun inteded) the destruction span for 100 miles trees snapped in half like toothpicks. Sign companies are going to busy, they are ALL gone - road signs mangled. oh well #floridaSTRONG
