Was discussing this with an insider last night. What we offer is incredibly low compared to the types of guys we’d like to get. I wouldn’t say this is the beginning of the end, I feel like that started awhile back. But it’s one of the final nails, imo.

IMO if we start to win (meaningful games) or we hire a BIG NAME coach the NIL money would be $$$! There is a TON of money in Vegas ,but Vegas only likes winners! Its kind of hard to get on board 4 most fans , BOOSTERS and/or businesses with a program that has been so bad for so long. We have everything in place besides success and $ !

They are not committed until we start to beat GOOD teams consistently or hire a BIG name head coach!!. There is a reason why the Aces and the Knights the better they do the more backing they have! Do u think if they were a last place team people would go to any of those games??? We have to build a base somehow ! The Knights have done it. The Aces are doing it and the Raiders have always had one. All of them by winning and having success!
Yes i have ,but now i am older and wiser!!!!!!!!!!! LOL. We have everything in place to win at a high level. No reason why we should lose to almost any NON POWER 5 school for almost any recruit. There are exceptions .How many times have even lets says MWC schools have turned their program into a TOP 50 ish football school or even a bit better and they do not have the facilities or the nightlife of Vegas?? I am just saying with the right hire and/or backing i think sky is the limit! Maybe we have the coaches ,but being so bad for so long its not a quick fix!
Do you realize that our programs have been insignificant for >90% of your years as a sports fan?

NYC, Chicago, lots of places have tons of money and other things in place, but that hasn’t helped the Demons or Johnnies.
They have not been very successful .Listen i work in the service industry . I see the excitement of people when they come to Vegas. Vegas there is no other city even close to it. I am just saying win they will come. Nobody in Vegas other than my dumbass and MonsterJam and of course a small handful of fans will spend $ on watching a inferior product in i think the most exciting city in the US. Way too much to do here with your freetime . Not including a ton of stuff to do from home with streaming service and games. With Power 5 money and inclusion that comes with the fame and there is no stopping us. I know i know wishful thinking. There would be a TON of opposing fans come here to watch their teams play us especially in POWER 5 football. IF we were a TOP 35 team lets say and in the Power 5 do you really think we would lose that many recruiting battles to similar teams?? Not a chance in hell.

Even without the Power 5. I think we easily be a PEAK Boise type of success with the right hire! The HC that got them there is coaching in the NFL right now. I know its hard to find the right hire ,but you hire a ex NFL coach again or a successful ex HC in college football that had success and maybe was shown the door for a bigger name or had a bad year or so.
The entire argument has become similar to a circular firing squad.

what don’t we have that they did have? Support, an all in focus on a goal? Leadership? Appropriate expectations?

You say it’s a single coach hire. I wish it were that simple. So much is wrong and there are a million coaches who have never done anything that could have done something with appropriate resources. UNLV doesn’t have many resources. And for some reason; you think people on the strip or in the local community are just chomping at the bit to hand over millions in some humanitarian effort to elevate UNLV to greatness. Or that if UNLV could only win, that money would come.
it’s a pipe dream and you aren’t going to get vision and funding to create winning and you aren’t going to do anything but fluke into some temporary winning without support. And all this going on while the entertainment world and sports world is expanding around us, leaving UNLV smaller and smaller.
Oh please Mr Wynn, even though you helped flattened this program forever, when you die, please bequeath UNLV athletics 1 trillion dollars so they can improve, if they can even figure out what to do with the money.
And if there is nothing preventing us, give us a logical explanation why we haven’t. It’s a simple as “wrong coach hired”? Our pool is limited by funds, we aren’t the Dodgers.
I think you are over analyzing it! Name one coach that came in basketball or football that was let go here that went somewhere else and succeeded ?? Otz and Beard should of never been hired. They both had 1 foot out the door even before the ink was dry. We have made a ton of bad hires. There are a good handful of schools with less than us and succeeded way more than us. There is no excuses why we should not have atleast marginal success. Risk reward CKK was about as risky as you can get!. So, if our history is a "ton of bad hires", why is it going to change? Why is money going to suddenly drop in our laps when it's never been there?

It was not there during the Rice era (should of never been let go)?? It had to be something going on there??? I am just saying you need to bring excitement to attract fans and $$$. Look how many fans and Student section was off the chains came out during the Rice era and that was because he was landing high end recruits and beating good teams. The product they have put out is not that good to bad. I may be just oblivious to reality or/and just plain out homer as they come ,but i without question think we have everything in place to win at a good clip or even better. Question for u Joe how many hires that were in reach of us would you picked over CKK??? If it more than a couple than there is your answer why we cant win.
Ouch. Our coach K not mentioned even in the honorable mention part of the article. He had some assistants go to bigger fish so he cannot be regarded too badly.
You stated - you need money to get excitement, if you get excitement, the money will come from the big boys in Vegas. Chicken/egg. Where do you start? We have no money, we have to fluke into it.
With KK, I can't recall his contract, but UNLV could have hired more qualified/experienced for that money ... who on a list? I don't know but I suspect it would be relatively large and more attractive. Doesn't necessarily equate to wins because you need the money/support after the hire too, and that's something UNLV isn't/hasn't been strong with. Let's be real, KK got the job by connections - if it works, I don't have a problem with it and I think KK has some good qualities. I like him better than the last two because I think he has some of the right DNA and motives whereas the other two didn't.
I think it's going to be tough. I say UNLV doesn't have money, they don't ... but the bill keeps going up (NLI) and what little money they have isn't growing. I think it's going to be very difficult and it's going to take more luck than skill or know how with recruiting ... did you get the "right type of player" out of the portal - were you able to entice players you want to keep to stay ... entice beyond (or without) significant NLI improvements ... I think it's really tough.
