is Doug Gottlieb. I know, I know, he don't have coaching experience but hear me out. If you listened to the plan he had on the radio show a couple nights ago, it was obvious he has a passion for the town and the team. He said he would hire an ex coach to be on the staff to cover what he may lack in experience, which to me is very little because this man is a brilliant basketball mind. With him having his own show and being a big name when it comes to college basketball, I don't think he would have any issues with recruitment here either. (Although Rice didn't either). I believe what will set him apart from Rice is that he seems to me he would be a no nonsense and have a lower tolerance for boneheadedness when it comes to play on the floor. I also loved the fact that he said he would reach out to Greg, Larry, Stacy and the other greats and have some of them to be involved with the program, as he felt this was an important part of being successful now. He also said he would not accept or turn down any position based upon a financial decision, so we could get him for significantly less than we would a Mike Brown or a Steve Lavin. I know most on here want Archie Miller, and I would not disagree with him as the next coach either, I just don't see him as being able to lure the same type of recruits as a Gottlieb would just strictly based on the fact that Gottlieb is a face that is associated with college basketball. This is just my opinion, and I want this team to so bad get back to being significant in the college basketball landscape.

NO! If TKM hires someone with no coaching experience she should be banned from the state of Nevada. The program just went through 4 1/2 years of someone with no previous head coaching experience - it did not work. If the Rebels hire Brown, Lavin or Gottlieb I will not renew my tickets.

I like his passion, and his perceived knowledge of it all from his commentary. No experience though puts him in the no category for me. He hasn't even been an assistant before. We all know how well Max Good helped Dave Rice when he was hired on...

These guys also will say "I'll never take a coaching job on money." Which is nice and all but then I suppose you wouldn't mind working for free then? It's just chatter, and he'll want money, bottom line. As far as bringing back on Larry and Greg, well, to be quite honest if DR and staff couldn't get Larry and Greg on with a Rebel, I really don't see Doug being able to. There are a lot of internal politics that come along with all of that and getting past Rebel greats from that era to come on (see: Augmon's wife's comments).

Miller would be far and away the best choice of all the names mentioned up until this point. I just seen that as a pipe dream though.

The problem with Dave was never his basketball knowledge, it was translating it to his players minds and getting them to do what he wants. However, that is what coaching is.

Like it was pointed out, Dave was unable to get anybody but Augmon involved in the program and after what just happened, I would say that bridge is burned.

All that being said, outside Miller, I haven't been excited about anybody else mentioned, at least the ones that are actually possible. So with all things considered, I wouldn't be pissed if Gottlieb got the job. It will never happen though so it is a moot point.

The problem is, we have spent more time saying hell no on the options presented, instead of being excited at the possibilities.

This is why I was so supportive of Rice for as long as I was, and terrified of what will happen if he failed.

Love Gotlieb but not as our coach. I think that you have to have some experience coaching hands on to fully understand it in my opinion. I am curious to see what Simon will do with this team. I know I know it's just a game but that's what I mean. I want to see what he will do the next 2,5, 10 games. I think he might show that he is better at motivating the team than Rice. Of course I am all in for Miller but if they go for the retread NBA coach I'm not so sure that's going to be better. Just my opinion that's all

I wasn't impressed when I was listening to him and in my opinion he struggled to answer why the school should hire him when he has no experience. For someone who doesn't have any experience, he did okay but that was too much for him to overcome IMO. I don't see why some here thought he did great when he was trying to sell himself.

I thought the idea of reaching out to former greats was something that Rice tried.

Well, he was not prepared to give a reason as he thought he was calling to talk about the next UNLV coach, not himself. Considering that and the fact it was on a live radio show, and he was trying to give answers that didn't insult other people, I thought he did pretty darn well.

Very well spoken and sure of himself is what I took of it.

I never would have considered the possibility until I heard the interview.
