OL Julio Garcia becomes first UNLV 2016 commit

Also locked up Caldwell who was ranked as the #10 recruit coming out of Nevada. Garcia was not as highly rated but that may change with his performance at the camp.

Maybe my memory is going but I don't remember locking up a recruit (two, especially) this early ever before. I'm sure it has occurred before but I can't remember it.

Plus, I LOVE the Bat Signal!!!

Sanchez has changed how local recruits view UNLV already..this is huge

"It doesn't matter (if other schools offer)," Garcia said last week. "I like UNLV. That's the place for me."

When Bishop Gorman HIgh's Julio Garcia II picked up his first football scholarship offer last week, the 6 foot 2, 300 pound offensive lineman felt like committing on the spot.

When was the last time we were talking about UNLV football in February and the words SHOULD BE and FIRED weren't involved.

LOVING the Line commits and the long term goals that are truly in focus. I hope... have a good feeling the current guys are hitting the gym and film good to make the first year out of the gates - memorable. I've been around for a little bit and I don't remember ANY commits this early... Please tell me otherwise.

The positive progress is weekly with this crew... Rather than yearly.

Two February/Early March commits... seriously, this has to be the first Rebel coaching staff ever to do this. It's a long year, but the vision is second to none.

Part of Sneed signing early was both AU and ASU had signed a couple QB prospects. The idea is that he could get on the field sooner at UNLV.

Do these recent offers to local kids change your original opinion of Sanchez and his commitment to recruiting locally?

I have thought from the beginning that there were 4 reasons he did not recruit all that hard locally this year..

1) He was working against the clock after getting the job late in the recruiting process.
2) All of his assistant coaches had already built relationships with recruits and he probably wanted to take advantage of that.
3) He simply didn't think this years class of kids was deep and most of the top end talent was out of reach.
4) He already had in mind that they would make a more concerted effort to recruit locally in 2016 because it was a more talented and deeper class of kids.

Did Garcia's performance at the camp move him up your list of top prospects in the state. You had Caldwell at #10.

Caldwell was already tweeting a couple of other top local prospects telling them to come to UNLV and help get things turned around. This is the type of thing that could snowball and get local kids excited about UNLV.

It's a good day for the UNLV family.

1) I bought my season tickets (same seats as last year) today and the price was crazy cheap.

2) UNLV has a commit from two BG offensive linemen

3) UNLV basketball had a good day. Another sign that they can play at see level being short on the bench, but will still stuggle up at places like Utah St. where they run out of steam without a bench.

He will be moving up but the current evaluation process is ongoing. He is a great looking lineman however.
