I think there’s enough money to get us back on track.
But we do have to ask ourselves - why do we need so much more money than our peers (conference mates) to get back on track? How do they do more with less and we to less with more?
Recruiting the wrong players, wrong culture mindset etc.
It starts with Kruger because he is in charge and sets the tone in the program. I had him pegged in year one, after the away New Mexico game at the cumpizza arena or whatever they called it, and the Rebels were in the NIT picture at the time. The came out flat, they sucked, couldn’t care less on the floor. Postgame presser had CKK not bothered by the pathetic effort and he was not concerned or gave a shit. He was ho hum about the loss, almost like he’s fine with just getting 20 wins.
Get angry, show you give a shit. The fans aren’t showing up because the passion and pride in this program is DEAD. It’s not all on Kruger, but man what a missed opportunity there in year one. I was so mad and knew this coach didn’t have the chops to make it. The coach I saw in the welcome CKK as our HC presser was full of shit. Which leads me to my second point…recruiting.
We are recruiting soft guys, they have no meat on their bones and get moved off the ball easily, get injured etc. Where’s the hunger? The rebel spirit? Where’s the will to win? We need to stop the recruiting of guys that look the part and start recruiting guys that don’t care how they look or act and just want to just want to destroy their opponents for the simple reason that they are just in their way.
Give me 5 guys from Detroit/New York City/Chicago and they will crush a group of guys from Southern California, Utah, Seattle that are highly rated. Whoever the next coach is, whether it’s next month or next year needs to change this pathetic culture and bring back the pride.
