Now we have hold outs in college football

I don't understand why these stupid schools don't sign them to contracts you take the money you are here for x period. That ends any negotiations mid contract. What's next someone demanding more money before they participate in the title game?

I believe the reason is in one program wants a contract then another will step up and do a deal without one. ALL programs need contracts of a similar nature for there to be any control.

Unless one school wants a contract and offers $1MM and another $500K without. Players are going to schools many times to the highest bidder. I don't think adding a contract changes that in many situations just the "all else being equal" situations.

At some point this has to get better, right?
These players are basically professionals, but their pay has zero to do with the revenue that they actually generate. Which is crazy. Is there any comp to this in the business world?
How often are people willing to pay millions of dollars to give to kids who are unproven?

I would love to see this happen in say… the mortgage business! Lol

Revenue sharing? Makes sense. The revenue sports are making a lot of money for these schools. But they also fund the entire athletic department.
True revenue should be a percentage of the net gain for the school, maybe subtracting the cost of the scholarships if we want to be "professional" about it.
NIL needs to be what it is. An athlete selling their name for something. Not just a kickback for picking a particular school.
That was the whole point, right!?!?

Yeah, so guys like Ed O'Bannon can get some $$ when EA Sports uses his NIL and makes millions. Or so a guy like Greg Anthony can have the T-shirt business. Or a guy like Ian Johnson can sell his homemade beanies. It wasn't supposed to be this pay for play (or sit, as the case may be) bs that it's quickly devolved into. The NCAA, or whoever the he!! is running things - the inmates? - needs to get a grip before things really get out of hand and people become so disgusted/disenchanted that they just decide to spend their time and money elsewhere. I'm getting close, but I'm a Get Off My Lawn, short-fused, old fart (as Joe will attest), but I may also be the first lemming off the cliff.

Exactly. 100% agree. Plus, how much profit are most universities making as a whole? There has always been 1 or 2 sports that make more money, and schools use those funds to spread out and pay for all of the other sports as well. So are they now going to cut out non-revenue producing sports? Adios baseball, softball, volleyball, tennis, track and field, etc.

The money isn't coming from the schools, so it is hard for them to sign a contract when the have zero control of the purse strings!

If I am paying the NIL, then I would want a contract. Hold some NIL to end end of the season in case they fake an injury, have them sign transfer clauses.
It currently is barely better than the old days, were kids would get duffle bags of cash under the table. I mean there doesn't seem to be any withheld money for leaving. DJ is like the only case were it seems we seen someone stay more than one year due to an agreement of any sort.

I think if Alabama, Ohio St, or some other big school gets Sluka'd except it happens right before a playoff game you would magically see contracts. I very well expect to see another Sluka some day just hopefully not at UNLV.
It already happened. Cam Ward lolz
He's making 2.4, wants 4 million. Crazy crazy

Agreed. They really need contracts, even if theyre year to year. If a player does something like this, void payment.

Are these guys even doing school at all these days? I kind of doubt it for most of them
The business (school) has put out money for education, room and board, etc. If they athlete takes advantage of these items and then quits the team before the season, then they should be required to pay back all the money!

I hope he gets limited options and the school that gets him knows it and gives him less than he would have gotten at TN.
The Circa owner will kick in $100,000 for him.

Imagine getting him at a discount now. He and his dad will be insufferable! "We will play 3/4 of the first game for that amount." Pass!
