Nobody wants Whaley?

I like Whaley when healthy. There were times when he was the best player on the floor. There weren't that many, but there were times. I don't blame his rebounding on him too much. As with all of our guys he was out of position when shots went up because we helped on defense too much. Rob was often able to box out someone. But yes, not a great instinctual rebounder. But I often saw he seal off his man with his gigantic booty while someone else would pick up the rebounding. He was the only one that could do that and I think it helped our team rebounding (it did get worse last year than the year before).

I 100% believe his back was a real injury. I could see from his body language as I treat backs all of the time. He also looked like he gained 30lbs at least.

Very doubtful that he can get back to being even what he was. His career might be done. But, with improved focus on conditioning with this team he isn't a bad 15th scholarship player. Best case, he can be another scoring big, also he is not a threat to be poached. You aren't going to have 15 players that regularly see the floor. The last player on the bench being a project isn't terrible.

Yeah but he’s not healthy and UNLV shouldn’t give free scholarships to people who are injured.

As a 15th scholarship player, he’s worth it. Even as a 10th.

The problem was our team was so poorly constructed, he was a starter and we relied on him actually contribute decent numbers in heavier minutes.

I mean, remember JK Edwards? Much smaller, played center and he was a far better player. And while Edwards wasn’t the king of effort, he wasn’t lazy wither. So you can be undersized and still perform out of position.

I really didn’t mind him, but it was a ridiculously variable motor and he just wasn’t fully committed.

We have become the UNLV “Rehabels” under Kev.

Can’t have that under Coach Pastner.

My point being is that took over games at times. Not many can say that. Sure he was inconsistent, but having 15 scholarships is a bit ridiculous functionally. So having a project that can provide a punch, even if it is only off the bench could be a plus.

Now that being said, his health is a huge question mark, and he would need to be significantly better to the point where there is some hope he can actually rehab and condition out of this. But even at 50/50? Not bad for your 15th player. It is the equivalent of the last walk on previously.

Crosby Stills Nash and Young. When they heard the news, Neil Young took his guitar out into the woods, wrote it in a couple of hours, came right back to the studio and they recorded and released it like 2-3 days after the shooting. One of the greatest songs ever written.

Ironically 55 years ago to the day, yesterday.

There’s a new Netflix Docuseries on the Vietnam War that’s on.

It’s a little “ slanted” for the Vietnamese cong. They interviewed a viet cong chick. She’s got some good quotes that are hilarious AF.

I’m gonna have to listen to those songs mentioned.

@rebneck lookin like the terminator

Going from focal point of an offense under CKK to 15th schollie on roster is good on paper but man that’s a tough one for the player in reality.

He would eventually be disgruntled etc.

Parlayed an NIT showing into Kent St.

Hey, do you want a scholarship or not?

Probably one of the few that actually offered playing time. Then again I don’t follow Kent State.

He could have gotten several offers as a bench/6-7th guy at a bigger school. Who knows. Who cares. We are all moving on.
Some of us care in order to see CKK era players do way better without CKK and get more mad at CKK

They’ll probably all “do better”. His “no system”system didn’t make a single player better. The team cohesiveness was not strong. There was zero mental toughness.

It was a really bad era. It really was a wasted four years. It’s easy to get 18 wins. Anybody could do that. You get at least 10-12 freebies in conference and there’s always half a dozen scrubs in OOC. It’s not something to hang your hat on, unless you play in a top 5 conference and play a top 50 OOC. And we don’t do either.

This. I mean some guys he took all their potential and shoved it to the bench because they were more comfortable just rolling the ball out on the court and playing rather than following his lack of direction direction... Hall has flourished since Kevin refused to give him more playing time as a freshman because he was making freshman mistakes in between being a really good 7-8 guy. Its not a real fair comparison to say "Oh man, Id like to have seen Josh keep him" if next year a few of these guys go for like 15/10... mainly because thats probably what their true potential was and CKK never got it out of players not named Bryce and Harkless.
