NIU to MWC?

I like it.

Also make me wonder if there aren't a couple more 'Eastern/Midwest' schools in play?

With it being FB only the travel costs aren't horrible. Only 4 trips out west. But would probably like at least 1 travel partner?

Toledo back in the mix? Somebody like WKU? A Liberty?

Maybe will settle at 9?

We’ll need another school to keep the Championship games going. I think Toledo was mentioned awhile back with NIU.

They will definitely go to 10 I don't see them not having a championship game or wanting an unbalanced league or not having another team out near there. Toledo? Would prefer Liberty but don't see it. This would be a good add though. Maybe another run at Texas State?

NIU would definitely be a boost to the standing of the MWC. If they can pick up NIU and at least one other good mid major program, then the MWC could end up on fairly even footing with the PAC which doesn't even meet the minimum requirements for football as of yet.

After what playoff commitee said today definitely need to get to a number that gets you a conference championship game. Said they highly valued conference title game wins in their decision making.

I'd make a run at Texas State for sure. I kinda get the feeling they might either go PAC, or possibly wait it out and see what happens with Memphis and Tulane, and take an AAC invite. If PAC can get to a 10 million per media deal that would be really hard for them to pass up even with extra travel.

Toledo gives NIU a good travel partner. But Liberty would as well. I'd have no issue if it was all three to be honest. You'd be at 11 then.

Throw in an NDSU football only as well and it shapes up into a pretty decent FB conference.

They don't meet the minimum for a conference at all yet. 😁

Liberty is 2,300 miles from Las Vegas, NIU is 1,686 miles away, Toledo is 1973 miles away, so they are all relatively the same distance.

The NPAC need a deal with a tv partner that is willing to pay 12-15 million, otherwise Memphis & Tulane are staying put. Thats their hang up right now, remember the Memphis AD basically said the NPAC deal would be a disaster for Memphis.

Oh trust me I think there are some issues over in PACVILLE right now.

10 million per team would not entice Memphis or Tulane. They need a minimum of 12 million and probably foot a decent portion of exit fees.

Maybe they get it done with Memphis and Tulane down the road, but there's been zero buzz about it since talks fell through.

If PAC had a healthy media package in place you simply add Texas State or whatever and get your conference completed.

I could be totally wrong but I'm starting to get the feeling they are getting back media valuations they aren't completely happy with. Better than the MWC, yes, but not quite what they had envisioned.

OSU and WSU especially need good numbers because they are taking a massive hit vs last contract. I know WSU just announced a pretty substantial reduction in athletic funding going forward.

It's also not only athletic funding. PAC schools used a healthy portion of their previous PAC media deal to fund non-sport pet projects.

Definitely.

They may come out allright when it's all said and done. But it's definitely not going as smoothly as they anticipated.

Hopefully NIU accepts. I would have to cheer for them vs Fresno St. in the Tater Bowl in Boise. Apparently, they've been thinking about this offer for several weeks. They would get more revenue even just for football only by joining the MWC. They've probably been working on where to place their other sports.

Hard to believe that we were once in the Big West conference with them back in the early 90's.

All other sports to MVC which is actually ranked higher in basketball than the MAC I believe.

OSU and WSU are in deep, deep trouble.

Oregon State University's athletic department pays $5.65 million annually in debt service. The school's total athletic debt is $58.09 million, which is part of the university's total debt of $992.8 million.

WSU is worse off. WSU's athletic program has over $100 million in debt, and at least another $140 million owed to external funders. In addition, the athletic department spends $10m on debt payments every year.

You already know I think the Pac will get between 5-8m. If the Pac is making less than $11m a year for the media deal, WSU is fried.

There are more than NIU in the pipeline in the midwest/"south."

And by "more in the pipeline" I mean the MWC has contacted more than just NIU. Who knows if they make the jump.
