Nice win!

We’ve danced 7x more than we’ve won league titles since 2000. 2 of those were NCAA quality teams that won the conference tournament for autos, all 7 would have had at larges. It shows that the schedule is vitally important.
and how many times have we danced in the last 10 years ? and how many times have we won the league in the last 10 years years? and 10 years ago is ancient history in this game - shit changes by the month now. For some weird reason I have faith in a different approach in the scheduling.

Ok. Just a few years ago Marv put together a similar schedule - it didn’t work. Sure we won 20 games. Looks “good” on paper. Weren’t a remote consideration for even the lowest of alphabet soup tournaments, not that anyone wants the CBI.

When your league is mediocre or subpar, you have to counterbalance with the OOC. I mean, if you want a shot at an at large bid.

Now if the goal is a slew of exhibitions to get your feet wet and be prepared for a conference season that gets you a first round bye in the MWCT, and then you roll the dice in the MWCT and hope you win it … ok, that’s one route to go. Extremely risky if you fall short and you have nothing to fall back on. But essentially giving up a chance at an at large bid in August … ugh.

Talk to any player. They want to play real teams, not Time Life Pacific Coast. That doesn’t mean you schedule 12 games vs top 20 teams. But it means you give them a fighting chance. Reminds me of LBSU vs UNLV in the BWCT in 1991. Slow it down as much as possible so you don’t lose by 50 like they did earlier in the season. Mission accomplished, they only lost by 20 or so in a low scoring affair. Ask B Russell or whoever was on that team how they felt when Seth Greenberg effectively killed any chance whatsoever at an NCAA bid.

Now, if the team wins the regular season conference; they will get an at large bid regardless. Finish 3rd and make it to the MWCT finals and lose? That 79 RPI, even with 25 wins, is keeping you out of the tournament. Especially since the MWC proved, once again, they aren’t worthy of more than a bid or two for the NCAAT

Plus, you aren’t drawing fans at the Mack playing Missouri Tech.

I’m just not a fan of a steady diet of cupcakes to create an illusion. Never have been. I’ve criticized schedules that have been tougher than this.

If the goal is one of the alphabet soup tournaments just to break into ANY post season, even one we have to pay for, then it might be a good route to take. I just hope we don’t hoist those types of banners in the Mack like UNR does.

First off I dont think Kevin has the same intent as Marv as to the "why did he schedule light"?

The league you say is mediocre but wouldn't it be great if we could be one of those 4 top teams that danced last year?

Talk to any player.... Talk to any coach...

You aren't even getting fans at the Mack when we do schedule big

I never was a fan either...the game has changed so much...

The goal is the NCAA

The goal IS and always should be the NCAA.

This type of scheduling certainly reduces that possibility, at least by way of an at large … which leaves the MWCT auto. Which is a crapshoot, but there is probably a better chance for all but a team or two in conference (we aren’t one of them) to get an auto over an at large. But I don’t like reducing the chances of an at large. This type of scheduling basically says “come watch the Rebels in January, Nov and Dec don’t matter, they’re exhibitions”.

Canada summary. I love hoop and the rebels but parts were quite unwatchable as I made it almost thru every minute of the 3 games. 3rd q vs Frasier Valley was as bad as any Unlv team has ever looked. Of course in the 19-1 rebel run in q4 they looked awesome.

Everyone had some good moments in the 3 games. Many more scoring options this year. Bad news is no one was totally awesome either. We are super weak inside without Cottrell and Victor. Jackie Johnson, Gilbert, and Rodriguez probably looked the best. K Hall had one cross over that was fantastic and some other good plays.

How Jordan McCabe can supposedly shoot awesome in warmups and drills and shoot so poorly in games is a mystery.

I only got one gripe on Jordan McCabe's game: When you drive to the basket, as you so frequently do, SHOOT THE GODAMN BALL WHEN YOUR UNDER THE RIM!!!! I dont give a damn if you miss it or get stuffed; it's better than throwing the ball away on a bad decision bailout pass.

His passes by the rim are in mid-air. Not good. Jordan have some of the worst game during this 3-game stretch I have seen in a senior player who supposedly be a starter. His shots and passes are not in par as a starter for a tournament team. This team do have enough talents to be consider as a tournament team. Because of the SOS that was published, it maybe a tough task.

I just don’t see your line of thinking.. Your perspective; weaker schedule, more wins.. Okay sweet, that looks great, I get that, on paper….. But we are under-prepared for MWC play, still no tourney, no national respect, no crowd, no money generated for the AD.. Don’t love that, & recruits don’t want to see that.. Pretty straight forward i think.. Not sure what the argument is?

I’m not saying that we schedule an OOC slate where we potentially go 6-6/7-5, with too many overwhelming opponents.. But you got to mix & match teams from 1-25, 50-100 & bring some big name opponents to the Mack, generate that excitement/revenue.. At least give us a shot at an at-large birth/some upsets & better prepare the Rebs to win the MWC tournament outright, which is basically what you’re relying on..

I Never said "weaker schedule - more wins". Joe said that. I said more focus on conference play less focus on OOC. Simple. INstead of Kansas being the game the players look to all season, now they are focused on SDSU and Wyoming.

I think both can be true.. Still not sure what the point/argument is.. I think a strong OOC schedule is always more beneficial and necessary.. Not too strong/over scheduling.. But enough there for an at-large & to better prepare ourselves for MWC play.. Doesn’t need to be KU.. Just a stronger slate so we are hyped/more confident to beat foes like Wyo, SDSU, etc.. I guess we can agree to disagree on that..
