Hawaii is in lockdown. Nobody is at their home games. It’s empty.

Their fans who are traveling will be vaccinated.

Just looked at aftermarket ticket sites. Rebs Tix usually go for under $20.

Best price is now @ $70. Should be a great crowd.

Hawaii always looks good at home and bad on the road:
Away game: lost 44-10 to UCLA
Home game: Win 49-35 Portland State
Away game: lost 45-27 Oregon State
Home game: lost 17-13 SJSU
Away game: won 41-21 NMSU
Home game: won 27-24 Fresno
Away game: lost 34-17 unr
Away game: lost 51-31 Utah State
Home game: lost 17-10 SDSU

My best guess is that Hawaii is on average 10-20 points better at home than on the road.

Agreed, and that's due to multiple things. The obvious one being the travel required for them to get places, and for other teams to get to Hawaii. Another factor is that once teams are in Hawaii, it's very easy to be distracted and spend energy on non-sports related things. I may know this due to personal experience ;);)

Hawaii defense is much better than the high school defense of New Mexico. They are not a bad team and I wouldn’t be surprised if they won by 2 td

The betting line has gone from UNLV +2.5 to UNLV +3.5. It looks like on average most people believe UNLV will win the game. Of course, if the UNLV that played unr shows up, we will get blown out.

You sure about that?

NCAA Total Defense Statistics have UNM ranked considerably higher than Hawaii.

In fact UNLV ranks higher than UH in total defense..

Positive.

Might want to Google NCAA defensive stats.

UNM ranks considerably higher in both total defense and scoring defense than UH.

Schedule and style of play offensively factor into that. (Time of possession teams tend to rank higher in these categories because opponents have fewer possessions)

But based purely on rankings and stats it is not close.

UH rank in the 100s in both team defense and scoring defense.

UNM is 70 in scoring and top 50 total defense.

UH had a good showing defensively against SDSU. Which isn't shocking, because SDSU has been pretty inept offensively.

There is no worse college football team than NM. The dline was a bunch of 250-260 lineman hence only 1 sack. No idea who they beat or how they have 2 wins. Hawaii defense is much better much bigger and will give the oline problems. Hawaii will beat UNLV. Book it.

I'm not arguing whether UNLV will win or not.

I'm stating the fact that UNM's defense despite what you say ranks statistically higher than UH who is ranked in the 100s along with UNLV in scoring and total defense.

UH is not good defensively. They may hold UNLV in check, which will have more to do with UNLV's inadequacies on offense than UH being good defensively, which they are not.

Yes. I agree. UH couldn’t stop Alabama. They will stop UNLV.

They gave up 51 to Utah State. 30+ to Portland State and New Mexico State.

It's not just the Alabama's of the world that have run up big numbers against them..

Again, they may stop UNLV and their freshman QB.

They've struggled to stop just about everyone else..

They beat Fresno St

Ok? Your point?

There are two different discussions going on.

You are lauding the UH defense like it is good.

I showed examples of bad teams that put big point/yardage totals on them.

UH is not good defensively and the 100+ ranking out of 130 odd FBS teams confirms that.

UNLV played Fresno within a score with a freshman QB. On the road. Hawaii won at home in a close game.

Hawaii will likely beat UNLV. No argument.

But they are not good defensively by any metric..A win over UNLV wouldn't change that.

So when UNLV loses Saturday you will blame it on a freshman QB.

You are waxing poetic about the Hawaii defense.

Address what has been presented to you.

UH is ranked in the 100s in total defense.

That is not good.

UNM gave up fewer points vs NM State than Hawaii did.

Your claim was UNM defense was garbage.

UH defense is ranked considerably lower than UNM.

Hawaii's defense has been bad all year.

What happens vs UNLV is inconsequential and not what we are discussing.

I'm not making any excuses for UNLV. I think they are likely to lose.

We are talking about UH's defense. It isn't good. It hasn't been good most of the year.

Could they do well vs UNLV. Sure. UNLV isn't great offensively.

Doesn't mean UH defense is good.

As for Friel..

He did not play his senior year in HS do to Covid restrictions. He was a redshirt candidate. Instead because of poor play from Rogers. injuries to Brumfield, he's been thrust into the starters role. A much different situation than what Hawaii is dealing with.

I watched Fresno vs Hawaii. They air it out and that worries me because I don’t trust our secondary..

Definitely a concern.

On the flipside their QB has 8 picks in 8 games.

Have to hope he continues to be careless with the ball.

For UNLV to win they'll need at least 1 if not 2 scores prompted be the defense. Either a pick six or force a couple turnovers that result in good field position leading to scores.

I know he is a Frosh but man Friel is so bad.
I don’t see that. I mean, yeah, some horrific mistakes. Kid just turned 19. Sometimes he throws a really nice ball. Slow with some reads, yeah. But I don’t know, I see something in this kid. Maybe not this season, he’s been thrown to the wolves, trying to tread water … I still see some stuff with him.

Man we have had 2 holding calls in the 2nd half that killed potential scoring drives?! UNLV doing UNLV things to hurt themselves at critical points in the game!
