If this board is any indication of the level of the community’s interest in UNLV MBB, Harp has a LOOOONG way to go to bring the program back to even a semblance of what it once was (and I’m not even referring to the glory years).
This game is awful to watch. I would hate to be a paying customer to these events.

DJ is the only player who should have the ball in those moments with this sorry excuse for a roster!

Because of roster construct, so much falls on his tiny shoulders. He plays almost every minute. Ball rarely leaves his hand because we don’t have other capabilities. A spot up shooter that can’t defend. A big who is slow to make moves and can’t rebound. A raw big that can jump. A couple other decent shooters. So many players that can do one thing semi-well but weak everywhere else. So he gets a ton of responsibility.
DJ on a team with three other capable, double or triple threat scorers would be a great player.
So I don’t blame him. Not when he’s asked to do everything to keep them in games.

It’s on the coach for not drawing up plays to take advantage of the inevitable double or triple team that collapses on DJ in these moments. At least two other guys should be slashing to the basket for an easy layup but the other 4 are usually standing and watching.
No shock at the outcome. Team is playing with more fire but they are sloppy and their D is mediocre at best.
Win or lose this game the season still comes down to 3 games in March. The result is kind of a shoulder shrug for me as it has been with most games unfortunately.

Yeah but that’s the problem, DJ is getting an NIL deal that supposedly makes him the program savior. Part of me wonders, especially now if we had additional nil funds or been able to use whatever is alloted to DTJ on 2-3 other capable starters instead would we be better off?
The verdicts in and he’s not a program savior, he’s not a Kobe or Jordan that can strap this team on his back. It sucks to say honestly but that’s a fact and we can say the team around him sucks but let’s not pretend DJ didn’t have any say in any of these guys coming.
He’s a good point guard that does the little things right and has a high IQ but this team is always around .500 the last two years. I’ve said it before but the first year of CKK had the best roster and chemistry of all four years. Ever since it’s been all down hill since because he had a great staff that first year and they all bolted afterwards.
I understand this criticism may ruffle feathers but this conference is mediocre and the fact unlv is hovering around .500 is pathetic. There should be a complete housecleaning in a little over a month, roster should be completely cleaned out. We need a new culture and new voice. CKK failed to deliver what he promised on day one if you go back and watch his intro presser.

That criticism shouldn’t ruffle feathers at all. I see very limited teams up and down the conference, just different degrees. But it’s deeper than ever. I’m sorry. The best of the MWC looks like a 9/10 type of seed which is barely making the tournament. Some teams are better than others, the bottom is downright awful, but in a pretty typical MWC year, whoever finishes 1st/2nd would be 3/4/5.
I don’t know what he promised on his presser … but I’m pretty sure we are doing much less than he stated. And it starts with recruiting/assessment.
I’m of the mind that now that players do draw real pay, substantial pay - they’re over 18, there is no need for kid gloves. They’re employees and all employees are evaluated. Before it was - ok, schollie … love for the university, our staff, they believe in them … now they go to the highest bidder, like many of us do in the real world, as adults, and they’re adults … criticism is warranted.
BHam, Harkless, and now DJ, have all sucked in the clutch. Funny how calling time outs just to send your star out there to go 1 on 5 does not work often.
Yep, missed FTs and giving up 15 offensive rebounds and us only getting 23 defensive rebounds makes our margin for error pretty much nothing.
Marvin was the absolute worst out of timeouts. First off all, everyone knew what the play was. Secondly, just signal that play on the fly and don’t give the D a chance to regroup, discuss, etc.
11 more games as well as any games they playing in the MWC tournament! March madness means you must be mad to keep Kruger past the second week in March when they will likely lose in the first game of the MWC playoffs!
Imagine Dedan if he had Gilbert and Hall as his guard and wing... with Hicks as 6th man... unfortunately we didn't build, we just rolled over the roster
If you’re referring to the MW tourney game. That was a coaching error, when you have Hamilton or Donovan Willams on the roster that are pure scorers, the ball should have been in their hands vs Wyoming.
