MWC & PAC Mediation Discussion for Poaching & Exit Fees

Midday Thursday (Day 8 not counting the holiday weekend) of mediation and still nothing but crickets. Are the Traitors going to write that $5,000 check on (Sunday) June 1 or not? Maybe UNLV should quietly throw their check in the pile as well?
I've gone back and forth on this.
I don't think a merger is on the table.
I don't think UNLV to PAC is happening.
UNLV and AFA get a nice chunk of change.
PAC settles for Texas State and or possibly Rice (They have crazy money to throw around).
Would it be poetic if Texas State and Rice said no, and they ended up with New Mexico State?

Couldve had Memphis, Tulane, and UNLV... instead they got Utah St., NMST and forced into paying a full share to Gonzaga despite Gonzaga not playing football...
Gonzaga punches above its weight in valuation for a basketball program..
But nowhere near enough to warrant a full share.
This was an absolute overpay by the PAC.
And its cutting into that AAV.
I cannot imagine Boise will be happy if that AAV drops from 10 mil a year to 9 mil a year because of it.
Well exactly correct. Every sentence. And to note, while yes Gonzaga punches above its weight, where does it get the big exposure (=$$) from? Big-name non-con games where they keep ALL the net money. You can't tell me that their WCC games draw much, if any, viewer interest beyond regional.

To be clear…this wasn’t to advocate in favor of the R1 conference. It’s was just showing who this idea would include, and it’s a big piece of the MWC and the 2 PAC schools.
There is a certain logic to it, but the problem I see is that logic don’t pay the bills…and nobody is paying to watch Rice play UTEP. This idea gives a seat at the table to programs that don’t bring any value…and on its face doesn’t include some of the programs that will have the best media draw.

As Oregon State and Washington State slide downwards, they will come to regret that they gave everything away, including the kitchen sink, to get Gonzaga onboard. I truly believe that this was a move they made early in an attempt to make the PAC look big time so that they could get one of the better teams like Memphis or UNLV to join the PAC, and instead they are stuck providing additional funding to Gonzaga, who do not even have a football program, in the same was the MWC screwed over everyone in favor of BSU out of desperation to get Boise State to join the MWC!I'm correct? If not, and the ex-MWC doesn't give a formal notice, the $5,000, etc., then the talks have to change immediately.
Dont forget Boise.. They think they will be the G6 CFP bid every season and collect an extra 4 million per year and have the travel expenses paid for plus the basketball possibility..
The 3x exit fee doubles, so yeah, they have to pay up by Sunday and give official notice or pay 30 million each.. which I'm not opposed to... more money off the top for us all.

Just another wannabe insider postulating that since they are mediating that the deadline has been lifted during the mediation. What I understand is that there is a gag on all parties involved & that is why we know nothing including whether or not the deadline has been extended.
OW! That’s a lot of money. They begin their Pac journey owing the MW all of those fees. Then also paying the pac for the pleasure of playing in the MW.
None of those departing schools get to see an actual distribution until July 2027.

That's July 1 next year, isnt it? Nothing matters in terms of the Pac 12 member count until July 1, 2026. Thats when their 2 year grace period ends.
More likely than not that the closer to that date it gets, the more expensive it because.
TBH if Texas State is smart, they hold for a full share. If PAC passes on them because they dont want give a full share, its gonna look pretty bad for the PAC when its NMSU. One of the most dysfunctional Departments in D1.

Texas State needs about 6 million per for the move to make money sense with additional travel.
I honestly think next addition is NDSU.
MWC might not be able to afford them with all extra travel unfortunately.
Maybe Sam Houston State but they just moved up from FCS and spent 5 million to do it. Im not sure they have the finances to pay another exit fee so soon.
Maybe if Gloria can pay their way. You'd have 2 Texas Schools then with them and UTEP. I've seen Tarleton State thrown around. They are a rapidly ascending FCS program but not sure how much help they would be in terms of media money.
I think next addition is NDSU.
If Im Gloria I legitimately make a run at Sac State as well.

I think the MW should go after Texas State, NMSU and Sac State then call it good. Why? The first two are about the only currently rumored Pac-? targets. Pull that rug out and watch them (us) squirm. The Pac scoffed at Sac State, so give them and their #20 media market a shot.
We already asked Texas St. They weren't interested. NMSU is a terrible program and would drag the MWC down further, and while Sac St is currently investing money in athletics, they're a 5-10 year growth program, and bring little value currently. The MWC doesn't need to add anyone else, doing so would water down an already mediocre product and stretch those TV dollars further because if no programs brought added value to the Pac, they'd also bring 0 value to MWC. For UNLV, it's a short term gamble. Play in mediocre MWC with a huge financial advantage and dominate, invest in their top programs, and get a Big 12 invite. Otherwise we'll see you guys in 5 years in the Pac 12 after you also need better programs.
I would say make another run at Texas St. Offer to pay their exit fee's and waive the entrance fee. They are the only school that would bring the Pac any value and be able to add some sort of value to the MWC. If they turn it down again look to add a travel partner for N. Illinois for football only and call it a day.

I agree but if you are looking at it through Gloria's lense is she comfortable with knowing UNLV is 100% angling to get out? Whether that happens or not, who knows.
There's some buzz around Sac State (Bibby, Marion, hiring Shaq in some figurehead capacity). And its a big market. You also have UC Davis a rival for Sac State. I think Davis makes FBS jump in a couple years.
I honestly will be surprised if NDSU is not invited to and accepts an invite to the MWC.
As for MWC inviting TX State, if its a bidding war Im not sure MWC can win it. PAC war chest is dwindling but Gloria has a lot of monetary obligations to UNLV and Air Force.
Plus our media deal will probably be 1/2 the PAC deal.
Make a run at them how? We already offered them full membership and to help with their exit fees. What more are we gonna offer? And for what? A program with 0 history... just because the Pac wants them? Why not Tarleton St.
