I think we ought to be winning awards for how many hires we have screwed up.

“Scheyer, who is a Chicago native, chased the DePaul job. He interviewed there and loved his chances. But that wasn't the only one he was eying. This has never been publicly revealed until now: Scheyer told CBS Sports he also interviewed at UNLV in 2021. He thought he had a real shot at that one, too. DePaul was intriguing, because of Chicago, but UNLV was the one he and his wife, Marcelle, got really excited about.”

I had mentioned that elsewhere, dereliction of duty that they picked Kruger over him a fireable offense if ever there was one.

He wouldn’t have been as successful here since we don’t have the NIL program and dedication to the basketball program that they do.

Do you think that Coach Cal makes it to the S16 with our NIL program? I seriously doubt it.

I do agree that, even with a fraction of the NIL, he would have been much better than who we selected.

Not sure how long he would have stayed here, but how daffy do you have to be to turn down the chief lieutenant of Coach K and hire Kevin Kruger instead? Mindboggling.

Scheyer has a great mind for the game. He probably would have ended up getting some guys here just based on his connections and personality alone

I just read Maryland spent just under $3MM on NIL this season what is our budget pretty close to that I think?

On another note the author saying revealed here for the first time is bs I read an article about this two weeks ago that came out last year.

I think fit is every bit as important as competence.

He wins, anyone wins, they’re embraced by the fans and that’s the face of it.

But that doesn’t mean unity, that doesn’t mean everyone is pulling for the same thing. Whether it be by withholding or worse, sabotage … it happens at UNLV if things are not aligned.

If you know, you know, if you don’t, you won’t believe it anyway so I won’t get into it.

That doesn’t happen other places. UNLV is unique.

Scheyer, Hurley … they wouldn’t have full support here. Again, this happens at UNLV, not other places (that I’m aware).

I don't know, is Scheyer a really good coach or does he have the best team money can buy?
We know very well that just talent alone doesn’t always make a great team. Rice had plenty of it but he couldn’t put it together from the sideline. Duke is damn good. And not just because they have the best player in the country and awesome supporting players. They are playing hard and smart. Defense was awesome the other night. I’m not trying to play shoulda woulda coulda but Scheyer can coach. He needs some credit for what he’s doing with that team. He definitely would not have been received well because he was an assistant, but he would have done just fine for however long he would have stayed.

Duke's offense might be even better than it was under Coach K.

A bit of both.

He does have a generational talent this season, so we can't undersell that. But they are much more than a 1 man team, and they are doing it with Freshmen as their best players for the most part, and they are only team left that can do it a a high level. He also did quite well without Flag.

So I think he would have done very well here, scaling the talent. The reasonable MW ceiling is a S16 these days, and I think he could have gotten us there.

He wouldn't have been here long, and probably would have gone right back to Duke once Coach K retired. So it would have been TJ all over again, though I think Scheyer would have done more with his time here.
