These guys can flat out coach. Two of my favorite coaches in college basketball. The UNLV admin should look at Gonzaga and recognize the huge **** up they made in not letting Rice build this program up. Oh well.

Are you the one that was going to make up the possible 10's of million in debt the athletic department would be while waiting for Rice to win? UNLV athletics went from a close to million dollar surplus to a 4-5 million debt in 2 years even while the football program ticket sales increased by about 4-5K during the same period of time.
Most of the fans voted with their wallets with the thousand of cancelled season tickets and screams to remove Rice as the coach (attendance dropped from around 15-16K per game to well under 10K per game by the end of his last season. This last season dropped even further, but season ticket sales were already written in the sand prior to the hiring of Menzies. While TKM totally screwed up the handling of the firing of Rice and the hiring of a new coach, this did not change the fact that UNLV is/was on a shoestring budget which tends to leave them making knee-jerk reactions good or bad!
Even if Rice someday would become a great coach, UNLV is not the program that can afford to front the money that they were losing in season and individual ticket sales which is what pays for every other athletic program which all lose money with the exception of golf which is I believe fully endowed. In hind site, things ended up much worse this last season due to Menzies having almost no bench returning, and not having a fair chance to recruit anything but JC and the few left over players from the last recruiting season.
Now we need to hope that Menzies can show why he is considered a very good recruiter, and a good coach, and at least have the program going in the right direction next season. Fingers crossed!

Totally agree about Few and Martin. But naturally you had to slip that bit of ridiculousness in at the end. But hey, congratulations on almost making a valuable contribution to the discourse. You were halfway there…Oops! Forgot to follow my own advice about ignoring your trollery...

We had people around us who had their seats since the convention center days that over the years Rice coached gave up their seats two by two. They were not happy with the hire in the first place so it didn't take long for them to bail out.
