The players want Lavin because he's known to be a "players' coach" who runs a country club atmosphere. I think they've proven they need the opposite.

Would Augmon work for Lavin? I think for Augmon its his way or the highway, right?

I don't know if that's the case. Augmon would probably be ok working with an experienced guy like Lavin, he just didn't want to be passed up for another assistant or inexperienced HC. Of course, It's all just speculation. I feel Lavin may be the only way for Stacy to stay since they're not gonna make him HC.

This is a way better option than Marvin Menzies or the catching-heat-from-the-NCAA guy from St Mary's IMO. People talk crap about him but he's a top recruiter with an impressive tourney record. The turnaround should be a lot quicker with better talent on the roster compared to someone like Cronin who's never attracted top athletic scorers.

There could be some sabotage going on, I mean when have you seen a coach search take this long? Countries decide Presidents quicker, Wars have been fought and won sooner, The boats from Italy got here faster than it's taken UNLV to hire a coach!!

Is she our Trojan Horse AD :bomb:

In my mind we are at about one week she has had to hire a coach because she couldn't talk to anybody until the season was over for the targets.

Augmon didnt say he would work for just any experienced coach - he said if you hire a slam dunk like Pitino, OK I understand. The third-tier and fourth-tier coaches are not the first-tier coaches that Augmon is referring to.

Well if he's too good for a guy like Lavin then Bye Felicia because he's not getting the HC position and Pitino or Popovich ain't walking through that door.

Like I said before, Augmon deserves his shot but not here yet. He could possibly assist or associate head at UNLV if it's an option, or move on to a HC position like Todd Simon did.

Augmon and Miller's names keep popping up as 'if all else fails' candidates.

If we are even going to consider an assistant coach for the job, how about we get one tied to a succesfull program not ones tied to a three year decline.

I mentioned this in another thread. Forget what UNLV was or what it could be. Base everything on what it is right now.

Right now UNLV is a mid major. I hate saying it but it is the undeniable truth. We have P5 facilities and pay mid major money and have mid major results on the court.

So instead of promoting guys directly tied to the last three years of decline we hire an assistant from a school like Butler or VCU. Butler promoted Brad Stevens with zero HC experience and then promoted Holtmann after Stevens left. Holtmann's only HC experience prior to Butler was at Gardner Webb. Butler handed him the keys to a team coming off back to back title game appearances. After losing a ton of guys to graduation Holtmann has Butler relevant again and back in the tourney.

Looks like Butler and VCU have this mid major coach hiring thing figured out. Maybe we should take a look at their 'corporate model'.

I thought he said elite or top coach.

I guess it would depend on if he felt Lavin was elite or not.

I'll bet he does. Lavin is a well liked guy nationally as I understand it and his resume is pretty good. I have a hard time imagining Stacey being like, "you know, I would have stayed for Pitino but Lavin isn't elite enough for me. Four sweet sixteens and an elite eight, nah, I'm out". Hard for me to picture Augmon doing that.

There might be some posters here who don't like Lavin but the notion that he isn't a big enough name for this program is laughable. If we hired Lavin tomorrow it would be praised nationally as a great hire, and rightfully so.

I think Lavin would have us competing for MW titles in 2 years. Give me a Lavin-Augmon combo and I'd be legitimately excited about next year.

I'll bet a Lavin-Augmon combo would lose virtually nobody to transfer.

Note: if your immediate response to that statement is "I don't care what the players want", please save it. A rotation next year including Ben, Obekpa, Pat, JC, JP, Fisher and Jackson absolutely has the talent to compete. Maybe Stacey could even keep DJ here which would be amazing.

Lavin winning the MW in year one with that roster would be entirely possible.
