Why is UNLV so dead set against hiring Stacey Augmon?
There is no way to salvage the program without the stability of a die hard UNLV person at the head of the basketball program, that is a fact.
Even though Dave Rice struggled to coach in the clutch, the program went to the NCAA tournament 2 out of 5 seasons with him as the head man winning 64% of the games and never producing a losing record.
At the end of the day, there isn't a better fit to balance out the UNLV program and he has earned millions of dollars in the NBA, so he isn't for the money.
Hire Augmon on a three year contract, that gives him the opportunity to impress. I feel he will bring some of the NBA declared player and potential transfers back in the fold. He has the NBA resume to bring in player this late in the process to fill the roster and he has the playing experience in the clutch to transfer his experience to the game.
Texas Tech made the choice to bring in a coach tied to the program to bring balance to a late search and, in my opinion, its time to repair the wounds of this coaching search at UNLV by handing the job to Augmon.
